How hard to rebuilt a T5?

After almost 2 months, I finally put my car back together. I took out the T5 to get it rebuilt. While I was at it, I replaced a bunch of other things. Anyway, I get it going yesterday to find 3rd and 4th grinding. Now I am really pissed. So, my question is, how hard is it to rebuild a T5? I have looked at the Ford shop manual I have and am farely mechanically inclined. I don't have a press, but was wondering if I would be able to do it myself. Considering a pro messed it up, I figure I can't do much worse.

Not to be a jerk, but did you remember to adjust the clutch? I'm sorry if you did but sometimes people forget obvious things.

A T5 rebuild kit with syncros, bearings and other small parts costs about $160. It does not include any gears or shafts.

I did a Tremec 3550 rebuild, and it wasn't that difficult. The video was an immense help, and I would recommend viewing it. At $20, it will give you an opportunity to look and decide for yourself if you think that it is something you want to try to do.

The tricky part is that you will need some shims to adjust the endplay in the two shafts: the new bearings will change the clearance. There is no way of telling what it will be until you get to the point that it is time to measure and check the clearances. Halon has the individual shims if you can wait for them. If you can't afford the wait, the auto parts store can sell you some shim stock and you can make your own, or have a machine shop make them for you. The shim stock comes in brass (easy to cut) and steel, in varying thicknesses.

Don't worry about it. It is properly adjusted. The grinding only happens when the car is moving, only going into 3rd and 4th gear. I have noticed a burning when I get out of the car. Could this be from the tranmission? I also just put a new belt on and a new smog pump off my other car. I only noticed the smell after driving the car.
