How Low Do You Go?

If you lower your car excessively/improperly someday you will be making a thread with the title:

"I was just driving along and suddenly I hit a puddle/loose gravel and my car just spun into the ditch for no reason and was destroyed"

No squatting here. H&R SS with revised alignment settings thanks to MM C/C plates and WOW what a diffrence in handling.

In my opinion the verts always tend to look more slammed with the Supersports than the coupes. Maybe its because they are a little bit heavier or because they lack the roofline of the coupe..idk. Nonetheless ToplessStangs looks pretty nice, a little bit lower than I want to go, I was thinking about going with H&R sports or C springs, but I really have no idea.

Oh yea and do you scrape your chin spoiler often for those of you who have it on a lowered stang?

You know, I have to agree on TomTom here. My car, though handle better then it dd when it was stock, it still handles like F150 in comperason to what i had befor Mustang.
Granted, it was MR2(perhaps one of best handling car under $50k at the time), but even if i put it side by side with my beaters(03 Altima, and 96 Geo, and T/A with leaking shock), it still leaves something to be desired.


I want IRS and true unequal length double wishbone front set up......:(

my sportlines are just for show, and still on the stock SVT shocks/struts

H&R SS springs. Looks awesome, but I'm thinking of changing them out. I am thinking of going with B or C springs directly from Ford. The H&R SS sat lower than my Bullitt. Both my car and the Bullitt had the Mach 1 chin spoiler, and my convertible does scrape in and out of some driveways and the Bullitt never did (maybe it is the weight differnce between the 'vert and the hardtop?). I have to be careful about parking, it is just slightly lower than the tops of the parking lot bumpers, so I can't pull into a space fully. What really has me considering swapping them out is that roughly 1/3 of all speed bumps that I go over (at a crawl), I will scrape my stock exhaust. :eek:

Haha, yea my Sportlines are for show as well. Hey Tom, i took out my front isolators and now the car finally sits level and i'll get some pics to show how LOW the car is now (no rubbing or bottoming out issues at all in Houston) :mad: but i'll still be switching to the H&R SS springs when i get back from OCS this August.
Also, would you say its worth it to switch out my Lakewood LCA's out for the MM Non-Adjustable LCA's or are the Lakewood good enough?

Ok, first off, thanks for all the responses and beautiful pics. Now, let's see if I can quiet the critics and answer some of the questions that were posed.
1. According to Sean Hyland and a few other reputable (by that I mean guys who actually road race mustangs) sources, 1.5" is as low as you can go and NOT change the steering geometry. Offset polyurethane steering rack bushings and x2 balljoints eliminate bumpsteer.
2. According to Carroll Shelby's crew chief Carroll Smith (what's with all these guys named carroll??) you can save your money and cut your springs that have already sagged, instead of purchasing a set that will no doubt sag over time. He also says that temper WILL NOT be lost in this process.
3. I already have replaced my lower control arms with BBK lcs and added a Steeda anti-roll bar. Both were very nice upgrades. Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention the adjustable shocks too.
4. I roadrace and dragrace, but I'm much more concerned about the suspension as it relates to roadracing and the overall feel of the car when I'm cornering at well over 115mph. The springs feel great, along with the rest of the rear suspension...............................however, the center of gravity feels a bit high yet, as I can feel the back wanting to roll a little more than I would like to feel. In other words, i'm not bitching about the ride.....i'm bitching about the ride height.

1. Sean Hyland builds cars that go in a straight line, not in a turn. Take his advice with a grain of salt.

2. Carrol Shelby, bless his heart, needs to learn a thing about suspension too. No way in HELL I would cut my springs and expect good handling. Hell, the last car he actually designed was what, over 20 years or so ago. Don't even count the GT500 because it's a pig. Call MM and talk to their tech guys. Friendly and knowledgable.

3. IMO, (a)take out those BBK's and throw them in the trash. With poly bushings on both ends, they're made more for straight lines than for turns.(b) Promptly replace with a quality designed arm such as a MM, GW, or Griggs.

4. PHB and T/A. Problem solved to an extent. The inherent problem with our cars is the rear end, but nothing a good set of LCA's, PHB, and springs,shocks,struts won't solve.

You never mentioned what springs/shocks-struts you have. That makes a difference.

:stupid: If money is of no concern, i'll get nothing but MM handring in box pkg. But $4537 is little steep for me...:(

Ummmm............Sean Hyland races a Cobra at Pike's Peak.
Carroll Shelby designed the Viper and the New Cobra. (not Mustang)
Every set of LCA's I can afford have poly on both ends.
The shocks are AGX externally adjustable. (let me guess, they're crap too, i need to spend $250 a piece to get a quality shock?)
