How many here have raced and beaten a ZO6 vette?

LOL, yeah i pretty much have always felt the need for speed. There is not a better feeling in the world than having your foot all the way in it, and using all the strength in your body to get your head unplanted from the headrest, and you can't do it. Like i tell my gf, you know i could have worse addictions, like smoking crack lol. As far as the big block thing goes, it will probably never happen. I've been thinking old Mr. Windsor sure would be pretty mini-tubbed with a turbo LOL. The addiction never ends!!!

I beat a stock 02 Z06 last year at the track when my GT was 100% stock and my wife got pictures. It really helped that he missed second because he was charging hard on me on the top end.:) Hey it wasn't pretty but a win's a win.

i was running side by side with an 06 till the hood flew up on my car thank god for the saftey latch guy seemed pretty suprised .was at about 120 when the fiberglass hood lifted.

Side by side huh? Did he know you were racing, because going by your sig I'd say you dont have a 550 rwhp or so to take a c6 Z06.

I myself extremely soon will be hunting for C5 z06's, just need to get a inline pump in and hello 450 rwhp just gotta hope there isnt much done to them haha. Z06's are sick.

the c6 Zo6 Vettes runs high 10's in stock forum with just slicks...

good freak'n luck.

You make it sound as though it's common practice. Ranger is the only one I know of who's ever run that kind of time with a stock '06 Z06. Most owners i've seen or heard of are running anywhere from low-12's to mid-11's with them. Still no slouch, but certainly not unbeatable. And certainly not regular 10-second cars like you statement makes them out to be. ;)

A post by Ranger (forum screenname) himself about his run and it did have a couple tweaks to it, via DR's/raising front tire pressure/great low DA track/etc.

"I grew up relishing the stories on Zora’s specially prepared ZL1 Corvette running in the 10.90s on slicks. Love those stories. And it’s almost hard to imagine that 35 years later, a showroom stock Corvette, albeit a 2006 Z06, with no change to the car other than using DOT drag radial tires could eclipse the times posted by that fabled ZL1. But it happened today at Maryland International Raceway in Budds Creek, Maryland.

On my first pass of the day, after an hour-long cool-down and change of rear tires to the BFGs, I ran a clean pass with the type of launch and 1-2 shift I’ve been looking for. Here are the splits:

60'........1.679 3650 launch rpm with a fast clutch release and fast throttle squeeze
330'......4.625
660'......7.046 102.61
1000'.....9.114
1320'...10.856 129.50

Density altitude at the time of the pass was negative 850 feet on my TAG weather station. Air temperature was 51 degrees. Barometer was excellent and humidity was low.

Track surface temperature was 60 degrees, kissed sweetly by full sun.

Soon after returning to the pits, amid a mild celebration, I was visited by a track official on a motor-bike for a discussion of the safety equipment in my car. He noted it was apparent from the tower that my UnderArmor compression top wasn’t a fire-jacket. And his check inside the car found no roll-bar. He complimented the pass and I took the hint, agreeing to slow down. In keeping with that pledge, I made one more pass. After bogging the launch to comply with guidance, was then somehow unable to keep from driving the rest of the pass…well…fast. I picked up the slip, 11.03 129.22 1.80. And that was it for the day.

Special thanks to dgdoc, Steve, and bill for their moral support and assistance crewing the car, today.

For the record, nothing has been changed on my car since delivery other than the driver’s experience. ECU/PCM is stock. Air filter is original. Nothing after-market at all.

I did dismount the stock rears and strap on three-year-old BFG 315.35.17 DRs, graciously lent to me by Dick Link. :thumbs These tires are perfect for the C6Z in that they don’t overwhelm the finicky LS7 clutch. And, if properly heated, they can provide excellent traction. I also raised the stock front tires to 40 psi; above that the DIC starts nagging on start-up.

If anyone wishes to draw a distinction that “bone stock” must include “stock tires,” he/she may wish to revisit scores of threads I’ve started over the past six years describing adventures at the drag strip with bone-stock Z06s either on (1) stock tires or (2) drag radials. I’m always clear about the tires on the car any particular day, in the thread title.

As for powershifting, I eased the throttle on the 1-2 and 2-3 but did powershift the 3-4. My experience has shown that you can shift fast while still easing the throttle. Takes practice.

I’ve written frequently that it takes 30-50 passes for a driver to approach his lower limit in a new plaform. That 10.85 was my 52d pass in the car.

I have some video footage of uncertain quality (new guy on the camera) and some audio files of the exhaust on the pass, plus a spreadsheet with split/incremental analysis. I’ll work on these over the weekend and edit them into this post. I can post the slip of the record pass, certified by an MIR official. Be up in a few.

I close by offering my continued appreciation to the Corvette Team and extended family, for this C6Z, a truly an amazing car and the new legend. And somehow I know, Zora is be pleased.

Best to all,

Ranger "

You got lucky. You are 14.5 @ 97, he trapped 107... What was the elevation btw? Everyone has been ranting and raving that the new GTs trap 101.
I'm at 2200 ft above sea level. My best stock time was 14.17 at 100.12 mph with a 2.12 60 ft time. Sea level corrected that's 13.80 at just over 102 mph. Still nowhere near as fast as a Z06.

You trap 105 mph and was running right next to a C6 Z06? My car traps a few mph more, and I would get laid to rest by one from any speed at all! Must have found someone toying with you.

I'm nowhere near taking one of those bad boys on yet, but there is a new 427 around here with a supercharger on it already and a smaller pulley and he put down 950 to the wheels on the dyno. I definitely don't want to meet him at a light any time soon.

Ya, most of those guys have a hell of a time hooking on the street.

Same with a bone stock Z06 on the street; if a Stang guy knows how to properly leave the line and row a gear or two before the Zed catches up, then you look like you won. It takes quite a bit of engine to hold them off on the big end...for the most part they are as light as us and more aerodynamic than us so I wouldn't mess with one too heavily on the highway.

Shoot--- Z06 is expected, what isn't expected is a Trailblazer SS running mid 12's at a respectable mph with just a few sleeper changes.

10 mpg on the street isn't my bag for a DD, but if you've got money to burn and a family that demands SUV; I'd take it over the hemi Jeep.
