I have been told that a T5 can take more horsepower that rated as long as your not a bitch to it. I am doing a turbo kit, and its on a rather tight budget, so was hoping to stay with the stock T5, and the guy who is building my kit has had a turboed stock car for 2 years now. His is what i want mine to be, everything original, but what i have to change to make the turbo work well. What I was wondering is would this really last for a daily driver until i would get enough for a better tranny.

Sure any tranny will last you if your easy on it. If you dont boost the crap out of it. Hard launches, gear slamping kill em. Nice granny shifts smooth throttle rolling will do you good. I dont think youll have a problem if you do a simply 8-10 psi setup.

depends upon how one shifts, what clutch one runs, are there slicks on it, etc.
might post what year of T5 you have, as the load ratings changed through the years.

good luck.

its a T5 off of a 93 GT. There are no slicks, and i don't race. I just want a daily driver with some extra power. Not running more than 10psi max. Hoping it will handle it.

Here's Tremec's info on the T5-Z, the upgraded version available if you buy new today.

1352-000-249 - part number
75/34.2 - weght in lbs./kg
300/407 - lb-ft/Nm's
5,500/2,495 - GVW lbs/kg
2.95- 1st
1.94- 2nd
1.34-3rd
1.00 - 4th
0.63 - 5th
N/A
2.76 - Rev.

You can see with a 300 lb-ft rating it's marginal for even a stock 5.0L. Worked hard/abused - it will break eventually. When - depends on lots of unpredictable variables.

Go here for more info on the whole line of Tremec trannies. Just click on the model, and it will present all the possibilities, torque ratings, ratios available, etc. http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/products/TR-3550.asp

honestly everyone is right i had hatch back few years ago w/ a 347 in it and a stock t-5 it would go 10.80s on drag radials shifting it like a old lady lately ive been runnin 4 banger t-5s behind my 351 and they have done great until i bolt the slicks on and they explode the 3rd gear driving habit makes all the difference in the world

thanks for the help, i do granny shift it, car has never seen slicks, and will most likely see about 8-10psi max. I use it as a daily driver, and have yet to race it, and don't plan on it. I just want it to last long enough for me to get a viper spec T56
