How much power can a 7.5 take?

I need a new axle for my 67, I want to put an 8.8 in but being a college student I dont have that kind of money. How much power will a 7.5 take? I can get a cheap one with discs on it, I dont plan on doing any racing, its going behind a very mildly modded 289 with a 92 t5 in it. Let me know thanks.

as long as you use a Detroit truetrac LSD in it it will be fine for the 289. Girdles are available for the 7.5 also from www.taperformance.com as well as other drivetrain places that carry TA parts

with a girdle and detroit the 7.5 will handle 400+rwhp/400+torque

do not use the ford T-lok differential or stock open differential as they are weak. the small spyders have little support and usually lose their teeth under heavy loads or high hp setups, and on stock V6 power with sticky tires and 3000 clutch drop

the ford T-lok is not a performance part. it is stock replacement for rangers and broncoII originally equipped with T-lok option. now the 7.5 T-lok is available through FRPP cataloge but it is not a performance part

Auburn also makes a nice differential for the 7.5

um with da wifes getting a new reground cam with springs and new push rods and possably P&Pin the upper and lower intake as well im looking for close or around 200RWHP will the stock 7.5 hanlde this with stret tires and FRPP 3.73's??? this is a must know and fits this thread perfectly

It honestly depends on how it's driven. Launched hard the carrier unit will die and so would a ford t-lok carrier. If you just take off at idle, it shouldn't have a problem. Sudden power is what breaks it.

so with an auto without a stall she sould be ok just gunnin it off the line...I.E. sticky track and all??? i wanna know cause thats the one reason i havent let her take it out there yet cause that track skrewed up my 8.8 and ill have dnyo numbers for ya in 2 days woot woot

launched hard a detroit will hold 200rwhp with ease on a 5spd

on an auto it will never fail at those powerlevels

an auto with 200rwhp should be alright with the ford T-lok as long as you don't do any neutral drops

auto with no stall she should be ok with the ford T-lok but i would just get a detroit anyways. why put the t-lok in and have it fail and spend more money fixin it

only $200 more for the detroit can save $1000 in the long run, but still the T-lok should be ok as long as more power in the future isn't on the list. if you plan on more power or 3000 stall then just get the detroit

well we just got it dynoed and it put 135 @ 3900 i think she coulda gone into low 140's but it wouldn't go any higher because of the speedo and governer kicking in, so im hoping with a cam swap w/ a 207/209 cam and P and P the intake and a nice tune she could get between upper 180's and 200hp do you think these calcs seem right???? TMX heeelllllppppp

Depending on how much port work and the way it is done, you could see 40-60hp increase from the H/C/I, so 180-200 sounds about right. Personally I'm getting the detroit trutrack, that way I won't have to worry about worn clutches, broken spider gears, and can throw more power at it.
