Being paralyzed from the waist down I have to use an auto trans and just had an AOD rebuilt using a full race kit with extra clutches built from carbon kevlar etc, and 2,800rmp stall, lock up converter.

I know you can't give me an exact number due to not knowing the exact setup I have but maybe give me examples or numbers of people who have layed down decent amounts of power through their AOD's.

I'm running a vortec a trim.

I just put in a transpack kit to make it shift firmer.

I haven't had any problems with my tranny so far.

The vortec site says 330 some hp with a stock engine. Mine is stock but I have different MAf, throttle body, Edlebroc performer uppper and lower intake, bbk headers off road h-pipe.....etc

I've had it set up like this for about three years now with no problems.

Sweet....I am looking to make about 350-400whp as I want to continue to drive it daily and that really makes me happy ot hear that.

Anyone using an aftermarket shifter as it would be really nice to have access to second easier and really like the look and usage of a B&M.

You may want to call Baumann Electronic Controls. You may only have a sticking boost valve which can be corrected. I called them about the 4r70w tranny in my truck and they told me how to fix a problem I had with it. Really, really nice people.

If you'd like to use 2nd gear more you'll need to go to a different valvebody in the aod. Give www.lentechautomatics.com a look. They have a nice semi-manual valvebody that will shift the trans itself when you feel lazy or use it like a full manual when you race. This allows the shift pattern to be the correct 1-2-3 and then you can use any aftermarket shifter you want that will fit into the Stang. OD is engaged with an electric switch so no fear of hitting OD at the track.
If you haven't already got one, get a BIG tranny cooler. The higher stall will add some heat to the aod and these things hate heat. B&M makes some good super coolers. Get the biggest thing you can fit under the hood.
And my aod is still living behind my low 12 second car with stock original clutches and bands. Just upgraded the valvebody and input shaft. It can be done.

sounds like you broke the small input shaft.

i would put a lentech valvebody in the tranny so you can use all the gears.

ive got 280+hp and 380+ torque on the gas and ran 11.9 this past weekend.

350-400 you should be ok, just plan on rebuilds often (every other year) if not then be happy for it.

a cooler, shift kit, and "a" servo will do much for you, also synthetic fluid, if your tranny guy is good, he might even drill out some of the oiling holes in the valve body

2800 might be a little low for you though, generally a mustang will flash at lower than advertised stall speed.....3000 is perfect cuz you actually get 2600-2800

w/ the power the 2800 should be ok, i had a 2200 in a mostly stock 5.0 w/ 3.73's and it felt stock
