whats up guys..My authentic urethrane saleen bodykit has been finished..prepped and painting done..they are trying to charge me a extra 500 to install it..front,rear,side skirts, side scoops, and wing.7 pieces..What pieces can be done by myself..im just a average person when it comes to installing stuff..i did my slp exhaust and xpipe and lightbar by myself..anything that involves a ratchet i can do..It seems the side scoops and wing can easily be done..you guys let me know if its a tough job or not..I would try and get a bodyshop to drill the holes where they should be drilled and go home and install the stuff myself...let me know if it can be done because I dont want to pay 500 for install...thanks

I only have the S281 wing and if thats the one you have, my bodyshop said it was a big PITA mounting it. It not only bolts on, but the whole back side of it is held to the trunk lid with double-sided tape. Therefore, you have a sticky spoiler that you have to center and get the bolt holes lined up in the right place.

IMHO, if anything, I would do the scoops and side-skirts myself. I think those would be the two easiest peices to work with.

if you read my first post..everything is painted and it came out real nice..the whole kit is painted and finished..just needs to be installed...I want to know the pieces i can do myself so I can get a much lower quote.

How much did it cost you to paint? I'm looking to paint a Saleen body kit white with clear coat.

I guess your painter doesn't install the parts after he paints them? When i have something painted, i have them install it while they are at it too.

I appreciate all the answers but everybody is just commenting on why my kit isnt installed..does anybody have the answers to the questions im asking? What part of the kit can i install myself withouth PITA..i have the front, rear, side skirts, side scoops, and wing....and my body works at a body shop..it took 3 weeks to paint because he did it "Under the Counter"..i paid him 400 dollars and he worked the whole thing with the saleen instructions to paint and it came out beautiful..using the UA ford paint code for black and all their recommendations to paint it..but he doesnt install or anything and I went into the shop for a quote..and its 500 bux..forget that crap..i'd rather do it myself..I want to know what are the easiest things to do with the kit..are the rear and front bumper and side skirts harder then the wing and side scoops?let me know..

DO IT YOURSELF!!!!! ALL OF IT!!! But you run in a problem like we all know you will! No offense to you but saleen stuff is junk! Urethane is great but fitment is rough! I saw people with saleen side scoops and fitment isnt perfect! Everytime I installed a body kit I had it on the car first! You try putting on bumpers and sideskirts without holes or with holes and lining them up and not scratching them is a pain!!! So try it yourself! 2 PEOPLE!!!! One to hold one to line up and take your time any problems then take it to a body shop! GOOD LUCK!

i have did one for a customer's car, i work for jc's autobody here in mo. the saleen bodykit is a pain in the ass.....it was fitted before it was painted right? If it wasnt oh boy :bang: have fun....it needs to be fitted before painting or you just wasted your time....i wouldnt try installing anything but the side scoops yourself.....we will not paint a fiberglass hood or fiberglass or urethane bodykit until it has been fitted because 90% of the time it wont fit right....good luck :nice:

hope you didnt waste $400 on the paint job. Might be worth the $500 for install because if they screw up the paint they should fix it.

$400 for a paint job? What do you think they used, a few cans of Rustoleum? It must of cost a lot more than that to paint the whole kit. I paid that just to get my Speedster Tonneau Cover prepped and painted, and I'm not complaining. You get what you pay for.

if you do it yourself have extra sets of hands around and some paitence. can make errors wityh painted parts.

does that include taking your old stuff off??? you could always offer to bring the car to them stripped if that would save $$$. taking off the old stuff requires no skill.

then agian if there was really no test fit done I would just pay the guy the $500 because you are really suposed to test fit the stuff.

when you guys say test fit, and 90% of the time it doesnt fit right, what has to be done in order for it to fit?new kit from saleen or alot of flexing and bending? I will strip the car's front, rear, and side skirts..the wing is already off..I would think the wing is easy, its bolt on, all you gotta do is center the wing and use double-sided tape, is it that hard?

I installed my kit myself. The previous posts are right, it should have been pre-fit before paint to properly install the hardware, line all the pieces up, and drill all the holes. You will need to reuse the metal brackets from the front and rear covers and mount them to the Saleen parts. In order to do that you need to fit the covers to the car and mark where the holes need to be drilled. You'll be taking the covers on and off several times to get it right.

I thought the front cover and the side skirts were the hardest. To get the front even with the fender, the placement of the metal bracket is critical. Took a lot of trial to get it right. The side skirts also require double sided tape. I even had to dremel some material of the inside of the skirts to get them to fit properly. The side scoops were easy except for bending the black grill to fit properly.

I would recommend letting someone else do it for you but I would be afraid that they would do a poor job. If you are the type of person that has a lot of patience and mech instinct, then maybe you could do it.

BTW, it cost me $1100 to have all 7 of my pieces painted. Took a lot of prep work they said.

Good luck!
