How much Trann Fluid is to much T-3650

I was changing my trans fluid in the T-3650, I had it put on ramps in the front and on the ground in the back. I put over 3.5 quarts but less than 3.8 quarts when it started running back out. I know the book says 3.2 quarts. I was thinking 4 quarts. I can't seem to get to the trann. with it on the ground to check it while it is level. Is this to much fluid. Thanks


I was able to get level, and I drained it down the the fill hole stopped dripping
but not the other 1/2" below the fill hole. Maybe I'll try something esle. I think this the level that the site is talking about on change to Royal Purple to fix there problem.

where is the fill, on side/front or side/rear

I think the car needs to be level (like on a lift) to get good reading, I would go to the spec. amount

why did you change so early, did you put in something special?

I am putting Amsoil all the way through. The fill line is in the back.

If there is a window with a full line, go with it. I will have to take a look. Most don't (T-5 or T-45).

If NOT...Fill it to the BOTTOM of the threads on the FILL plug. Allow excess to drain to the point of DRIPPING, not running out.

Or add what the manual says, but it will be correct PLUS OR MINUS. Now, Make SURE you have the correct plugs. It will be stamped FILL and DRAIN (Drain is the lowest plug).

On page 218 your manual says, "For vehicles equipped with a V-8 engine the correct manual transmission fill level is 1.3 cm (1/2 inch) below the edge of the filler hole." That is assuming the vehicle is setting level of course.

On page 221 as you noted the quantity is 3.2 quarts which should be all you need to put in.

Then on page 222 it says in subnote 5, "Service refill capacity is determined by filling the transmission to the bottom of the filler hole with the vehicle on a level surface." That fill level conflicts with what page 218 says, go figure??

Either way as long as you have the 3.2 quarts in it then wherever the level is it is good to go!

I have seen many service manuals that use the latter... LOL! And yes, you do want to be level...

I remember reading somwhere that the 3650 is very specific about 1/2" below the fill hole. I recall that if it is overfilled it can cause the occasional second gear grind.

I would put a little less than 4 quarts in. Around 3.5-3.8 quarts.
