How much truth is in the weight factor for the 1/4 mile?

I thought about adding some big substo my GT in the summer. Well, I have them sitting in my room. I weigh about 160 and the speakers will be adding about 140... maybe a 50 ib box.. and 3 amps... I know this sounds like a little much but the truth is, maybe i dont want to strip this thing down to nothing just to shave some time off of my 1/4 mile. Will there be anything significant here? you will drop a few tenths in you e.t prbably like .2-.5 it'll depend on how you drive too

0.1 is significant, its the difference between a good driver and a great driver. Also normally 1 lb of unsprung weigh = 3 lbs of unsprung, more for rotating.

+1 for the 100lbs = 0.1 also we figured
100lbs = 15hp

apparently about 10 lbs of rotating mass is about 6 hp on the dyno, so that is quite a lot.

also remember, by putting 100lbs of stereo equipment in the trunk, right over the rears, it could also help traction during a launch. better 60fters usually lead to better times.

I have never heard of anyone adding weight to the back of their car to gain time. Gain driveability yes, gain time, no.

Makes a huge difference, I took out my system after having it in for 1 year, and weighed it, it was about 100lbs with everything. I left it out, and the car feels so much lighter. Every pound makes a difference man, I would leave out the subs...save your ets and your eardrums.

image...what do you want your car to do? if you want a faster car leave em out...if you want a killer system put em in. its not gonna drop you .1 per 100 lbs like the other guys said? if you want the stereo, put it in, if not, dont.

you lose about .1 for every 100 pound you add. gaining weight over the rear wheels with weight still slowa you down. dynamic weight transfer using lift bars will help et.

before i go into racing my 98 GT i had a killer system that weighed in aroun 150 sold it 2 sets of 3.73 with install kits 1 for me one for wifes V6 best switch i ever made, but i am a track junkie now, if u like cruzin with the sterio pumpin put em in if you desire that extra .1 to .2 sec. don't unless you run for money it wont hurt

i have been told that 25lbs of rotating mass would equall a tenth of a second in the 1/4 mile aswell. so buy some lite weld wheels and install them for your drag racing and the rotating mass savings will offset the stereo added wieght.

Audio system will consist of.. Oh and im taking out the backseat and building a box for the subs to fire out towards the passenger and driver seat while utilizing some of the trunk as the box. For all you audiobuffs this is the equipment i will be using; (With the exeption of an upgraded alternator and a yellowtop)

Unfortunately that doesn't work at the track, tried just for laughs and anything we gained on the 60ft was lossed by the end of the 1/4.
