how much wider are 255s than 245s

obviously 255s are wider than 245s, but in a real world inch measurement, how much wider, and is it really noticeable?

The width of your pinky finger nail.

That's what my high school chemistry teacher taught us.

So to answer your other question - not much difference. I think that means, go with 255's if you are buying tires (they will fit essentially the same as 245's - remember, half of that extra width falls on each side of the wheel). If you have 245's and are wondering whether you should replace them, then the answer is -no-. Wait till they are worn out.

Actually 225's are narrower than 245's. And the difference is about 1/2 of an inch.

He's asking about 255's not 225's.

Anyways, I had 255/45/17's on my tribars before I got my 03 cobras. I would definatly recomend them over the 245's. They don't bulge like 275's on an 8 inch rim, don't rub, look a tad more meaty than the 245's, cost virtually the same, and they give you less of a chance you will scrape you wheel on a curb (depending on brand).

Yeah, the width and aspect ratio are metric and the radius is standard. Way to go tire industry, NASA couldn't even keep the two seperate.

I would caution that more than the absolute measurement delta, the manufacturers can be off. One can sell a 245/45/17 (exempli gratia) that is dimensionally different than another manufacturer's 245/45/17.
