How much would it cost me to rebuild my engine or go 306+?

I'm trying to decide if I want to rebuild my engine this summer or not. If I do all the work my self except for the machine work how much am I looking to put in to the engine if everything goes ok? How much am I looking for machine work on a good block? Who offers a good rebuild kit? How much would it cost to upgrade to a 306/347 stroker kit? Are there any special parts I should replace? My dad has rebuild engines before but I have only rebuild aode's and never an engine so any advice you guys could give me would be great.

Get a .030 over piston. They are probably much cheaper than the stock 4.000" style. I wouldn't opt for the 347 because any type of half-way serious 347 will split the stock block in two. Plus, it seems that you are worried about cost, so by not chosing the 347, you are eliminating the need for a new crank.

What type of rebuild kit?

Well, that depends on what you plan to do with the car. Do you want to put a big(ger) head on the car like an AFR 185 or it is going to remain a street/daily driven car? How many RPM do you want to spin the motor to? All of these questions need to be answered in order to choose parts.

You say your Dad has rebuilt motors. Assuming he has the tools to do it, it's fairly simple. Take everything out, check your clearances, and torque the bolts to what they need to be in the reverse order that you took them out. A good engine rebuild guide or book is always a good idea for someone doing it for the first time with minimal help.

I found a local guy with a 94 cobra long block that was rebuild and is .30 over. I'm trying to get it between $650-750. How many ci will the engine be with .30 over pistions?

I wouldn't buy anything "rebuilt" unless he has the receipts to prove it. Even then, I'd be skeptical. Any jackass can slap bearings in a motor and call it a day. Lets put it this way: why is he selling a freshly rebuilt motor? Unless it's his profession, I think there are some underlying reasons why he is selling it. I hate to be cynical, that is just how i see it.

Money is probably tight, so you are probably looking for a good, "cheap" deal. Remember, Cheap = Twice.

The guy got the engine from a buddy who got a new one for his 94 cobra. Then the guy got it rebuild by a shop that thier family uses for thier race car and other engines. He was going to install it in his car but then he found a 351 and chose that and then he stuck this block in storage. They said I can call the the shop that rebuilt it for them and he can confirm the work and stuff and give me any info I need.

It sounds to me like a brother's, cousin's, sister's, best friend's, boyfriend deal.

If you want to buy it, ask for a paper with all the clearances on it. If they intended to sell the motor, they would have written all the clearances down to provide to the potential buyer.
