My dad said he found a nice 9" rear end that was 53" wide. Now thats 4.25" narrower or 2.125 per side right? Well Is this to narrow to work (assuming I relocate the spring and shock plates of course)? Would I have trouble with having (or finding) a 2.625" back spacing rim?

Thanks for the help....

I'm guessing you mean 53", flange to flange. It should work as the '66 should be around 54.25, or there abouts... What did it come off of? I can't think of may cars that would require 9", that are more narrow than a Mustang...

With 3.75 backspacing you can narrow a stock 65/66 rearend by .500 inches on each side. This is how I got the 8 1/2" Torque Thrust rims up under mine. You will need to "grind" on the shock mounting plates a tad for the brake back plate to mount.

Ok, How wide is a 66 mustang rear? I thought it was 57 1/4. Is it 54 1/4? The guy said he had a rear that is 53 inches flange to flange.

65-66 rear is 52.25" flange to flange, and is 57.25" drum face to drum face.
