i have a 2002 5 speed gt and am having comp cams part # XE278H and a vortech sq blower installed. i currently have a 4.30 gear and am wondering how steetable it will be. i plan on returning back to either the 4.10 or 3.73 in the near future, but until then will i be able to drive the car?

you should probably go with 3.73 for non-N/A but if you were staying N/A i'd say 4.10's or 4.30's probably

Traction will be a thing of the past You'll need to go back to 3.73s to catch street traction

I'd put some money aside for some super sticky tires. I think as long as you stay below 3k rpm on the 1-2 shift you should be okay. BTW congrats on the purchase.

I'm running 4.10's and a s/c, and the only thing I'm worried about is traction at the dragstrip. Other than that, I'm leaving it the way it is. Hopefully going this weekend to get some times.

With a 4.30 gear and a blower on the highway, would he over heat? My friends with 5.0s well 347, 351, 393, whatever tell me they would over heat. I don't know if that goes for the 4.6 as well? O yea go back with the 373.

with those gears you'll be running at such high RPM's and therefore you will be running under boost the whole time..i think you'll wear the engine out faster..if you get 3.73's or 3.55's, you will be cruising around at lower RPM's and if you tune it right, you won't be under boost at highway speeds, therefore reducing the stress on your engine

Good answers. Stay with the 4.30's and go with a 28x11.50 et'street. Tranction is gonna be a problem with any gear ratio at that power level. Why comprimise 400+rwhp with tall gears and street tires. Youw would have great drivability with a blower, cams and 4.10-4.30's only after a dyno tune.

running under boost will not wear out anything faster. He will burn more fuel.

You will need traction if you stand in it. You will have to adjust how you drive. It is not uncontrollable. You will probably want 3.73 or 4.10s. What kind of boost are you going to make? Are you changing valves, valve springs? will you be turning more rpms? Knowing some of this will help[ you to make a gear selection.
