Paint and Body How To Adjust Rear Hatch

I tracked my first car i owned down and bought it. I've been tinkering with it. I noticed the rear hatch sides are uneven, it shuts and opens. But sides between hatch and body are different spaces. How do you adjust the side spaces? I know how to adjust the rear,but sides?

Under the panel inside the car, below the hinges, there are studs and nuts. Loosen them and the hatch will move left and right. Those things can be a pain in the neck. Take your time....

I haven't had to adjust a lot of them...

Disconnect the hatch struts.

The few I did do were done with the hatch open. It might actually be easier with the hatch closed but not latched. The hatch struts will fight the positioning.

Ok thanks. I wasn't sure if the hinge bolts would work. Will I lost likely have to adjust latch afterwards?
