How to fix the Gangster Lean step by step guide

This might sound like a dumb question, but would JB Weld possibly work as a fix for this? I mean, given proper curing time, and maybe drilling a couple of holes for the stuff to seep through and bond through/around the frame pieces being "welded" together, it seems like it *might* hold ... umm, right?

I doubt JB would hold it. However, there is foam on both sides of that area and I don't see why you couldn't drill a hole use a bolt (like a 1/4 inch bolt with a washer on each side). Just make sure it is as low profile as possible to ensure you won't be able to see or feel it.

great post

I am definately going to be trying this in the next month or so. Mine has the lean to the side bad and the catch doesn't work either so it leans backwards a bit too.

I am wondering if I could pop rivet the parts back together though as i don't have a welder....

You could probably use rivets but I think a bolt would be a lot stronger.

By the way, if anyone with a 87 to 93 mustang tries this I would appreciate it if you let me know what the differences are in the seat as I did it on a 86 seat.

I also know how to fix the catch thing (had to do it on my car) so when you slam on the brakes the seats don't go flying forward. If there is any interest I could do a small write up how to do it.

I used monel (nickel alloy) solid rivets I had left over from my days as an aircraft mechanic. Lay out the 3/4" spaced rivet pattern on the inside and ouside flanges and you are better than new.. Out comes the trusty pneumatic rivet gun... Rat tat tat tat... The monel rivets are hard to drive and you need a heavy bucking bar to do the job.

this should be submitted for a the usful thread index since this is such a problem on all foxes and just about everyone will want to do this at some point. could a mod do this for all of us?

i msged daggar about the sticky, we can only hope and wait at this point. 90% of this forum could use this link. i do trim and upholstery for a living and i get questions all the time on this topic. about to do it to my seat personally when i re cover them

i used a competition engineering eight point roll cage to fix the problem. the seat is rock solid now.

Little bit more expensive then a few rivites.... but heck.. what ever works right....

Nice Write up... Had to do this to a buddys seat on a different car... i thought to myself if it was close to the mustang... after seeing this it bacially is the same... Ill probably knock it out this weekend now...
thanks..
