how to get 300rwhp out of '02 GT

I know exactly what you're saying, but the thing is, my car already has like 104,000 miles, whereas the GT that i'll be getting has about 11,000 miles. I'm not about to dump $4000 into a car that is already presenting me with a new problem every 2 weeks. The 02'GT is in mint condition inside and out (dad bought it brand new) and he has never raced it (on the track or the street). I doubt the car has ever seen 3000rpms, Im not even kidding.
My 98 GT has a little over 200,000 miles on it now :p

a full exhaust, a few boltons(since only a few work), cams and a dynotune.

but i would keep your cobra if i were you, with a a full exhaust cam and better heads it will put down right around the smae with a tune

SLP power pack offers 330 crank hp straight out of the box. I imagine that with a complete CAI set up would put you at 300RWHP. This is the route I'm taking. So I'm doing that and adding a Demolet stage 3 intake set up. Should get me about 350 Crank HP total. I'll be happy with that... and some gears.

I have seen the 03-04 cobra packs but not anything for the gts. What is in these packs? I checked their website and it isn't on there yet. Unless there are heads and cams in the packs i highly doubt you will see anymore than 270rwhp. Which if you take 330 x .85 for the drivetrain loss that is what you get. I just don't want you to be disappointed when you still have a ways to go after the pack install. That being said you will love the full exhaust i'm sure it comes with.

Theres no way I can afford a blower and I'm not really into racing so I'm not wont be doing nitrous. It'll just be raw engine.

I just want a car that is really quick that I can cruise around town in.

(and just to let you know, I came up with the '300' figure because my friend has a 96 Cobra with factory 305hp and that car is PLENTY quick for me)

Keep in mind the 305hp rating for the Cobra is "not" rwhp.

I love my SLP stuff, but I'd be surprised if you got 330 (is it rwhp or crank?) out of just full-exhuast, tune, pullies and a filter. MMFF tested their Cobra power pack and it came up short of advertised powergains. SLP explained what could have been factors, i forget exhactly what. I know it was a hot day but other than that, i dunno.

either way, without cams I'd be very surprised to see a 2V hit 330 (crank or rear-wheel) with those mods. cuz hell if they would, Im only LT's and pullies away from 330hp. sorry, aint gonna happen.

Maza4ever14, im not calling you out or trying to be an ass, I know you're probably posting directly from SLP's web-site. I just dont want anyone to go out and buy this kit and end up rather disappointed. nothing personal :nice:

I wouldn't be so surprised by 330 Crank HP. The Full SLP exhaust can give about 30 rwhp. Pulleys free up about 10 rwhp. High flow air filter makes about 10 rwhp. A tune would be good for about 15 rwhp. All this on a stock GT individually. Total that up is about 65 rwhp total. I know that in conjunction with each other they won't put out 65 rwhp increase but more like 55-60rwhp under ideal air conditions (like an air conditioned dyno room with controlled humidity and barometric pressure, as well as Sea Level correction) which would put the total right around 70 Crank HP. Voila 330 crank hp. I could see it. That with some 262AH Comp Cams and springs and you should easily make 300 rwhp...

I'm at 262 rwhp with shorty headers, bassani x w/cats, slp loudmouth, and a drop in K&N, that is with the bullitt intake and tb's though. I'm putting a stock GT crank hp to the wheels so thats fun, but i want more! There isnt too much else i can bolt on, that other 40 hp would be hard to come by i think.

Yeah but look at the price, 2k and still to get heads and cams plus a proper tune. That's dangerously close to supercharger kit money and you're only talking 300rwhp just over.

SLP make some quality parts, but a lot of their stuff (this Power Pac included) is just over priced IMO. Better gains for less money should be available by mixing and matching between manufacturers to get the best hp/$ upgrades.

i agree

ive never heard of 10hp from an air filter on a 2V. not calling you a liar, but ive never heard of it.

you can get BBK, Flowtech, Mac and maybe even Hooker ceramic coated LT headers for less than SLP's. I doubt the power differences would be enough to justify the extra money. this is coming from someone who has SLP products and swears by their quality and performance.

the cheapest ive seen SLP LT's is $700. their shorty o/r X-pipe goes for $240. thats $940 right there. you can get BBK LT's for $500 and a matching VRS o/r X for $160. together thats less than the SLP LT's. that leaves you with $280 less than the SLP pair, which can go towards a tuner, gears or anywhere else.

I know "you gotta pay to play", but there are cheaper ways than SLP's powerpac and it seems like this guys looking for the best bang for his buck.

also, 300bhp/ton would ported heads really be necessary? cams for sure, but the PI heads should suffice, wouldnt they?

It will not happen unless you have cams. Ill tell you what you need to make 300RWHP.

LT headers
True X (O/R)
nice flowing catback
U/D pulleys
electric WP
JLT or demalte CAI (only use one of them...I reccomed JLT)
75MM TB
Nice upper Plenum (accufab maybe. I have a self P&Pd trick flow)
180* Tstat
VT stg 2 cams (i have stg 1s...stg 2s should get you there. You NEED springs with those though)
and a dyno tune..a GOOD one.

Thats what I did, and im setting @ 292RWHP....ohh so close :nonono:

Do you have a link to where your getting this from?

They only have a link for the cobra power pacs on SLPs website but in the new 5.0 mag...or maybe a month or two back now there is an article on it claiming those numbers ...and if I recall the numbers from their power pac for the 03-04 cobras put down less power than advertised

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE SLP "KIT"!!!! Im making about 345 at the motor. Your not going to make 280RWHP with that stuff :rlaugh: . If you take the simple route in this sorta stuff, its not going to pay off. You MAY get 270 with a good dyno tune. Buts thats it. Just looked again...you probably wont go 260-265 since it doesnt have a plenum/TB/CAI.

what exactly is the benefit from a thermostat? and where is it also?

helty, also dont trip, i actually pretty much copied from last months 5.0 magazine with the red fox on the cover. they had the power pac in the speed lust section
