How To Remove Window Tints

I have these aftermarket window tints on the car, and i need to remove them in order to pass New Jersey inspection...

Now i did this on my last GT, but it took me FOREVER to do, and a lot of alcohol and elbow greese

Do any of you have an easy method to removing window tints? Any products i should go pick up? Or does this task just SUCK....?

I'd pay to have them taken off, and put new ones on just the rear...but at night the rear window tint amplifies the headlights in back of me and i can't even make out the car behind me...so i think i'll just remove them altogether Let me know guys, thanks.

The rear i would let a tint shop take off.because If you scrape it ,you will mess up the rear defroster ..

THe sides just peel it off and use soapy water and a razor blade to remove the glue and the part of the tint that may not have come off..

Soapy water huh...i used alcohol and like degreaser or something last time. Whatever the mixture was my dad gave me... (LOL j/k )

I think it was a mixture for Mustard Gas, because i was all

Yep soapy water..My buddies use it all the time at there tint shop.But they use a special chemical on the rear so the glue just comes right off.

i found a link somehwere to do em when I pulled the tint off my 97. Basically what you did was pull the car out into the sun and wet the outside of window you wanted to work on. Then you cut a black trash bag to roughly the window size and lay it on the outside of the widow, the water seemed to help it stick. Then you take a little ammonia and water and mix it in a spray bottle and spritz it all over the tint. Then cover the inside with and black trash bag and it will stick like the outside. Wait an hour or so and let it bake in the sun. After that I used a razor scraper to pull up a corner and 90% of the tint came up with the glue. Then I just washed the rest of the glue off and the window was back like new.

Windex with ammonia, or any other cleaner with ammonia. The ammonia in the glass cleaner tends to break down a lot of the glue attached to window tinting. That with some goo gone should do the job. You may want to spray windex on and then just let it sit for a while, then try to take it off.

Just dilute some ammonia and soak the sucker. Then use a non-abrasive pad and some more ammonia mix to scrub off whatever adhesive remains. As long as you use something non-abrasive, the defroster wires will be fine.

This task SUCKS!

My 98 GT had window tint and I hate it so off it came. But it left that figgin residue behind. The easiest way to get it off is with good old fashoned elbow grease and this stuff called Pro-Sol. It's a solvent body shops use. It's powerful stuff and won't hurt the window. Not sure where you can get it. I just used the stuff out of my Dad's dealerships body shop. I would try a Dealer supply store to find it. You use a rag and rub real hard. Use any old window cleaner after you are done and you will have squeeky clean windows.
