The ring around the outside is seperating and I was wondering if anybody knew if super glueing it would damage foam surround? Have any of you guys done this? thanks chris
I had the exact thing happen to my JL10W6... I used 3M yellow weatherstrip adhesive... it wont come off again... if the yellow bothers you, you can touch it up with a little black marker...

I was told not to use silicone one time when I took a damaged speaker to an audio repair shop as its properties damage other parts of the speaker. They suggested replacing the entire surround, but I can't for the life of me remember what they said to use to secure it.
you CAN use silicone on a box. You have to make sure you let it cure (8-12 hours) before putting the subs in however. I would NOT recommend using it on the sub itself. It's the fumes that cause the silicone to degrade the subwoofer, not the silicone itself. Once it is cured, you're ok.
Good thing I asked for advice. I didnt think the super glue thing sounded very intelligent. It seems like the 3M weather strip is the safest way to go. Bratliff-did you put it on the side, or between the layers?
thanks for the replies
Well one of my customers will not accept any elctronics if they are made in a BUILDING where silicone is used as the silicon oils migrate along surfaces and contaminate them.
I will not use silcon. Also my Kicker subs had a note that if there is silicon used in the box it will void the warranty...

I did it between the surround and the subwoofer cone. you wont need much at all.. I am sure other things will work, but thats what I had and it worked great. You dont need much at all.
I don't think silicone has high enough adhesive qualities. (JL's ABUSE the surround.) You could contact JL and see what they say. I know that some companies even make kits to completely replace the surround.
