HOW TO THREAD: I'm tired of seeing weak sti's blow us away 0-40! Susp mods!!

Their site does not come out and say its a drag tire, Im pretty sure its just an autocross tire. Either way Ive never heard of anyone using Toyo DR's

While true not everyone is a magazine tester. AWD can hook hard out of the hole but not all of them know how to launch an AWD. There were plenty of AWD cars Ive seen at the track that were cutting 2.0+ 60ft times, some as high as 2.3 ON AWD!!!!! So much if it comes down to driver error or lack there of.

Yep. Look at the cars 5-60 times....its slow unless u launch at 6000RPM EVERY time.

I have to disagree about it being hard to launch an AWD car. You rev to 6K and sidestep the clutch and the car will take off like a bat out of hell. The question is... is the driver willing to risk breaking driveline components? Most mustangs at the strip are weekend toys while most STIs are daily drivers.

STIs are fast, handle like they are on rails, and stock for stock destroy mustangs in the 1/4 excepting the new GT500s. They are on par with an '03 '04 Cobra, have 90 less horse power, but weight 300 pounds less. AND the driver has to shift into 5th to finish the race.

I think you have to give these cars a lot of respect.

I would hate to take a 2.7 60 ft out of context. You do not know what the story behind it was, do you?

A 1.7-1.8 60 ft. is what they are capable of. Now whether one does it or not, that is another story for another thread on another day:)

I personally give these cars respect, its the drives that dont get it most of the time.

No I dont know the story behind it, all I can say is what it says in black and white. 1.7 and 1.8 is what they are capable of as you stated but not all of them are going to be able to do it, it comes down to what the driver is capable of. 1.7 is very easy to do for RWD as well, DR's + a good launch and you can hit 1.8's and 1.7's

Correct. I mis-stated by calling them weak...They really arent but anything done to our cars equilavent to them, the V8 will win.

That being said...if you are not willing to dump the clutch every time, you will not get those fast times. Take one from 5-60 roll and the times are much higher. Not the case with a V8. It is more consistent bc of the low end power. But the 6000 rpm dump on the sti is nasty, lol.

If your looking to cut 60ft times that will be equal to these guys then your going to have to get some DR's. As stated before on street tires you don't stand a chance. Are you looking to hook up on the street or the track? I'm writing all my responses as the view point of racing from the track. You don't need control arms or any of that, does it help? Yes and I plan on doing it to mine as well but what you need is a set of sticky DR's. I'm running MT ET Streets and I have yet to cut anything less then a 1.8 with them at the track. I have only a few runs on them at the track but if you want to cut 1.9's, 1.8's and 1.7's your going to need something like this. The next question is how built up is your rear end? I'm running 31 spline moser axles so I'm not worried about it but I don't think stock 28 Spline axles will hold up well. My very first run on MT ET Streets was a 1.808 60ft time, almost a damn 1.7. Drag Radials, that's the only thing I can tell you, you wont do it with Z rated tires w/ your motor.

That was my entire point with posting it:)

I am street only. I didn;t think 28's would break street..maybe track. Axle tubes are getting welded, battle boxes, lca's panhard bar, steeda sway.

Lca's don't help?

Lower control arms do help I just meant they are not as important as DR's will be. How come your so concerned with what AWD cars do for 60ft times if your street only?

I was never concerned about their 60 ft times in particular. Everyone else was using it to compare tho. :) Fore me, I guess every once in a while I want to take of at a light (on a closed track of course).
