How to understand 1/8 mile times

I can understand the 1/4 but have no clue of the 1/8 mile. Can someone explain this to me? I know that you run 1/8 of a mile, but what is expected from cars runnig in the 1/4 mile. I guess I'm asking is, how would translate a time from 1/4 to 1/8 or vice versa? And while you're at it, can someone please explain how to understand 60ft times as well.

I saw a site a while back were you could plug in your 1/8 mile time and it would spit out what you would run in the 1/4 mile. I forgot what the site was but I will try to find it. Also what is the need to know your 1/4 miles time.

what do mean what is the need. i know my 1/4 time. it's 15.5 at 91, but i'm just askin cause i see a lot of people with 1/8 mile times and i don't understand if they're car is fast,slow, or in between.

If you have a quarter mile slip, you should see your eighth mile time and trap speed as well. Generally, 8's in the eighth is peppy, 7's are quick, 6's are getting pretty damn fast.

mid to high 9's is about high 14 to low 15
low 9's is about a low 14
high 8's is about high 13's
mid 8's is about a mid 13's
low 8's getting into low 13's and high 12's

thats just a basic rule of thumb, but it gives you a basic idea

This one is pretty close..its only an estimation as some cars dont pull the same at the other end of the track and some cars just run out of gear befor the 1/4.

i just tried the calculator bit and i'm running 9.87, which now i know is slow compared to other i've seen on the forum. give me a break, i'm getting started with my fiver. ok, thanx for answering that question but can anyone help with the 60ft times?

60ft is trial and error... If your on a street tire try to drive around the water box and do a slight burnout just to clean the tires off. When you come off the line you can come off at idle or around 2krpm... you have to play with it. Depending on yoru gear you may be able to come out a little harder. You dont want to bog.. and you dont want excessive tire spin. Ive cut 1.90s 60t times on a 225/50 kelley charger H rated. Takes practice but you will get better. If you get excessive tires spin you need to feather the throttle to make them bite. There is a fine point between a bog and to much tires spin.. ive cut my best 60s on street tires with a small amount of spin off the line but every car is different. Good luck.

The lower 60' times require more power as well, you'll never see 1.5 with a stock motor.

A good rule of thumb is to multiple your 1/8 time 1.57 (1.55 for a blower car) and that will give you a rough estimate for the 1/4.

LOL thats awesome... Ive cut a 1.47 and its a good ride.. tires almost a solid foot off the ground.. My buddy stood his on the bumper and normally cuts a 1.21 60ft... I cant imagine what that feels like. He runs 5.20s in the 1/8th.

now i get it. let me get a tune up and see how i do with a stock vert aode on 60 ft times. thanx, i'm more track friendly now and will understand when ya'll talk about this topic. it was a free race night, and all they give is the reaction, et, and mph. have to go on a friday to get everything. thanx

danm that was only .01 off from mine

there is a certain conversion factor it is around 1.55 or something but changes for all motor and blower and nitrous cars ranges from about 1.52-1.57

It was .07 off on mine.. I ran 7.66 1/8th and 12.07 1/4... whats weird was my 109.37 mph.. I still dont get that.. It should have been 113 or so.
