alot of people seem to hate the b-cam. seems like nobody uses it. So i have never really heard how it acts.
Will it stop making power?? will it pull much higher than the stock cam.
and will using 1.7s do much to it?? stock B-cam lift is 480, my stock cam has nearly that with the 1.7s on the car now. The 1.7s should bring the B-cam to around 512ish or so.

i want to hear from people who actually have the cam and drive it alot.

Dont waste your time, why limit yourself? This is why so many LS1 guys out there with boltons brag about the cammed 5.0's they beat down. I have seen quite a few b cam cars lose to bolton 5.0's and run slower times. Also seen them dyno less.

i like my B cam. given, i've never run anything but this and a stock cam, but i like it. havent dynoed it....see sig for details. great sound, and im not too worried about power (daily driver). starts making power a little above 2200, and pulls till 5k when i shift.

The stock 5.0 roller cam does really well with just about everything. I would not change from the stock cam unless your are trying really hard to extract every last bit of performance from your engine, and even then maybe not.

IMO, the camshaft should be one of the most carefully chosen components to upgrade on your 5.0 engine.

Not only that, but B-cam will only yield marginal improvements over stock, will probably cause it to fail emissions, and will slightly worsen your mileage. Also, you can't use with an Automatic w/o idle probs.

Save your money and get a set of AFR 165cc heads and you will see an easy 60+ hp over stock with the stock cam.

It will run fine...you could take it out and sale it and get a custom:)

Either way it will give you a bit more performance than a stock one and sound better if your into that. Good Luck!

I am running the B cam with 1.7's in my galaxie w/efi swap. I can tell you this.. the guy is right about not wanting to run it w/ an automatic. it sucks bad.. Other wise the cam sounds really good and seems to make ok power.. You better clay those heads and get really good head gaskets that are the right thickness because you will cram a valves in those pistons running 1.7s on that cam. I ran a set of felpro's from jegs that were like $50 ea that gave me what I needed.

The B cam rocks.. there are a lot ( that IS A LOT) of 12 sec B cammed 5.0's out there !! You will see an increase in power.. lopy Idle and strong pull thru 5000 ( stock springs) to 6200 ( performance springs) Idle quality is always an issue with computer controlled engines, but you can tune and it will make you very happy!! I suggest you install the cam in at 102 to 103 ICL ( advanced) and you wont believe the differance in the bottom end AND still pull strong top end!! Dont Dis the B.. there are a lot of guys that will tell you it is something else after they blow your doors in!! LOL As for the 48 more cubes it takes the Cheby guys to smack the smaller 302... well that has been going on since the 60's!! Tune the 5.0 and those 350's ( LT1's LS1's blah...blah...) WILL cower in the back of the lot!!

Sorry but a b cammed anything isnt taking out a modded LS1 on the street, especially up top. There are stock cam cars running 12's, so whats that say for the B cam? I have seen a B Cammed 5.0 with all the boltons try a full bolton stock intake and 3.08 geared 87 GT and it didnt go well for the B Cam car, on like 3 different occasions. I have driven a B Cam 5.0, it was a pig. My friend put one in his 90 LX and ran noooo faster but boy it "sounded" faster.

Speeds - So there was no change in mph after the B cam swap? Also, remember in the races you were talking about, driver changes things. A B cam over a stock cam in a h/i combo will make it just that much quicker.

Thumper never said "modded" ls1's...

The B cam sounds very cool at idle - especially w/ an o/r h pipe and flowmasters; I had some idling problems w/ it, which may not be totally attributed to the cam. Since the cam has been out for probably 15 years, there probably are better choices - but it sure sounds awesome.

Ask MOB... He's running awesome with the stock heads and a B cam... I believe mid to low 13s with exhaust, B cam and some sticky tires. It's a good all around cam. But like said, there are others that are better... Dual pattern cams are actually better for the E7s, because it will take up some of the slack from the lazy flowing exhaust ports in the E7s...

Agreed the newer grindes are 250.00 to 320.00 and you WILL have a better idle quality !! Cam tech is always changing and it is always easyer to change an existing spec to something better!! However... the B cam was and still is the Cam that will still allow 12s with stock heads... cost half as much as the newer grinds and idle from hell!! If the cam is in there now... advance it a few degrees and have fun!! As far as the other B cammed cars running slower... it wasnt the Cam!! it was the rest of the setup. No slam here, just an observation... cool??
