I've always gone with the OEM Motocraft filter and Amsoil 5w-20, but found a K&N oil filter cheap today. Anyone have any experience with the K&N? Are they just as good as the Motocraft filter, better, or is this something to stay away from?

Yeah, a K&N should be fine - haven't heard any negative issues about their oil-filters (except maybe paying a slight premium due to the name).

You can Google for "oil filter study" or similar keywords/phrases to look-up the results of all those oil filter studies that are documented out there on the web if you really want the full details.

As long as you are using anything but a FRAM oil filter, you're OK IMHO! :D

my boss actually had a K&N filter leak on his 96 mystic. hes a master mecahnic so he didnt screw up the install. the bottom of the case where there is a lip that attaches to the motor had a slight break in it and there were drops of mobil 1 on his driveway.

I use either the Mobil1 or the K&N oil filter, and I've never had a problem with either. I do like the K&N because it has a nut on the bottom that makes removal much easier.
