OK the GT is kinda weak after a bad day at the track a few weeks ago, but i talked myself into gettin her dynoed NEway....and glad i did. she put a pittiful 215hp @ 4650 rpm thats with a low 150lbs of pressure in two of the 8 cylinders when thier supposed to be at 165lbs of pressure. anyway while i was there a guy told me he'd sell me his 70mm throttle body and a C & L intake plenum(the thingy the throttle body bolts up to) for 150 bucks is this a good price??? he for sure put it on 6 weeks ago then bought a cobra so he's parting out the GT its on. supposedly in cant have more than 1000 miles on both pieces. should i get it?????? and what would the HP gain be after i fix the compression issue???
BTW 215 to the wheels with a 98 GT in the shape mine is in aint bad at all

you wont gain much anywhere from 1-15 HP if that... just save for a P.I swap

but fro 150 for the combo thats a good price

not a big fan of the C&L plenum. Causes alot of people to go way lean without a tune, shouldn't be your first mod anyway. I would get ML or LT headers first.

I don't think you'd notice much [if any] of a difference with the compression down a little.

i wouldnt even waste that amount of money on the plenum t/b combo. for a coulpe hudred more you can get the pi heads used and have a big difference in hp. of course i would fix the compression problem. goog luck.

ok so a buddy of mine is gunna help me disect my compression prob and i WILL be getting the TB and plenum even if it doesnt go on because the exact kit the kid bought was 350 before shipping. depending on WHAT the problem is with compression i will either resel the plenum to a friend with a 97GT at cost or install it on my own car thx for yalls imput and it seems the TB and plenum MAY increase 5 HP max with my setup now

Maybe you will get lucky and the low compression is from the valves and not the rings... Just squirt a little oil in the bad cylinders. If its the rings the oil will seal them and your compression will go up, if not then you can really justify doing the PI upgrade...

Maybe c&l plenum and tb are not very good, but i heard nothing but good things on dragon tb(75mm) and plenum, they seem to worth the money.

Well saddly a PI upgrade will never happen as at best i may get 1000 dollars for my car in the next 3 years for uprades/performance mods. if i can squeek 250 at the wheels and delve into the compression issue (if springs we fix, if valves just babby the chite outta her) id be happy. the reason P&L on the rings is so cheap is that the guy thatd be doing the work requires half what the cheapest shop will quote me and a case of beer. best part ive only had 1 problem with this guys work and I broke it. im hoping to achive my 250 goals with a sct or dyno professional tune, fix compression if rings, ans adding the TB and plenum 150 can't beat it. but if its not the rings then look into geting the valve job done and P&P of them and intake. deppending on cost of that (which is a bit cheaper that a used PI swap) if i have more than 200 left over (good possability) then i beg the wife for more money and get it tuned. If its a bit under 150 then i beg the wife to let me put the TB and plenum on instead of selling it. either way itll be fun.

being realistically honest with you...i dont see you getting anywhere near 250rwhp with a tune and the intake mods..

with a tune, O/R midpipe, catback, plenum/TB combo i just squeeked over 250rwhp and thats with PI heads...i started at 226rwhp stock, thats 10 over what you're at now and you already have the exhaust mods...so thinking realistically, a tune and minor intake mods arent gonna net you 35rwhp...set a goal of 230rwhp, that is reasonable...

^Agreed....especially with a cost limit of $700ish.
Nothing wrong with the C&L plenum, it wont lean you out more than others or anything....but its still going to lean the car. You NEED a tune if you say your already lean.

If your concerned about the low compression, personally I'd look for a good used PI engine. With the hardened valve seats in todays engines a valve job is pretty much unheard of, as by the time you need the valves done the rest of the engine is due for an overhaul as well. Usually [if the valves do need doing]what happens if you just do the valves you won't have gases seeping past them anymore but the added compression b/c of this, will force oil past the worn rings and the engine will start to puff blue smoke.

Hmmmmmm i never thought of that doing a valve job could cause rings to go that does make sence . as for the 250hp goal it IS feezable. maybe not with just fixing compression a tune and the tb and plenum but thatd get me to atleast 240ish. i assume and feel this way because the guy that would be doing the ring swap (to fix compression) has my exact car only blue, every mod is the same evem down to suspension and and interior mods and the extras im thinking about doing. with a C&L plenum and a mac TB <(i think not sure) and a custom dyno tune he's putting out 249.6RWHP @4700 and yes his is an auto too. so i think if comression can be fixt with rings it MIGHT be able to. But having never seriously thought about the valves being the issue im not sure if id go for it without doing rings too which of course i cannot afford BOTH. so it seems im in a pickle, oh well ill wait till this sat and after we know whats causeing it. i'll repoast up and get as much advice before money switches hands thankx for the imput

well no but what about 20-25 HP???, no where in there did you mention the HP im losing to lost compression with the numbers ive lost (10lbs in 1 and almost 15 in the other) ya dont thing theres 8 to 12 hp loss? (im not saying there IS just saying you don't seem to feel that HP is lost due to my low compression) but if compression is as low as it is in 2 cylinders (2 middle on passenger side) and im already running as lean ("way too lean, you could crack a head at WOT"<what me mech/friend said) as i am you dont think that fixing the compression and a proper tune wouldn't net me more than the average 10-18 rwhp??? i was thinking/hoping i could get 10-15 HP from fixing lost compression, about 15-20HP from the tune and 5-8 from the TB&plenum. if these are crazy lemme know i do understand its a little high but i cant help but hope for them being its my car. Edit: OK the numbers from the fixt compression came from a speedshop owner so ill changed them from 10-20hp gain with those, but the others are up in the air.
