San Francisco
I'm getting ready for a road trip and wanted to get a full tank of gas before I left. So I was pumping at slow speed, but the pump nozzle was still clicking off prematurely. I finally got it to feed without clicking off, but I was still pumping at slow speed. Cars at the neighboring pumps were filling up and leaving, to be replaced by other cars filling up and leaving. I was still standing there trying to get 11 gallons of gas into the tank.

In San Francisco, you are not at a REAL gas station unless there is some homeless guy panhandling, asking if you want your windshield washed, or just talking to you. While I was pumping, the resident guy passed by and said that I had sure been there a long time.

Yes, Ford, this is normal.

pretty horrible.

I experienced this for the first time last week. I thought my car was 'fixed' because it was an 07. I clicked off at just about 6 gallons, and had to sit there and jimmy it for another 6 gallons. Good times.

And with gas prices what they are now, it's really good to sit there and wait.
You've got to laugh to keep from crying, I guess.
Ford, is that really normal? I guess $20,000 dealer markups are too.
No wonder the company has financial problems and some of its models are so out of date.

My suggestions for pumping gas in a big city:

In SF, not at night if you can avoid it. Not in skanky areas Bayview or southeast quadrant of SF, some parts of SOMA. Of course, the gas will be more expensive in areas that are less threatening.

And if someone pandhandles you, take his change and use it towards your expensive gas. :D

I'm glad to here this is normal,,, well kind of. I filled my 07 up for the first time and the gauge showed 1/4 tank and it clicked off at 5 gallons so i'm like "cool this thing must really sip the fuel" Untill i drove off and seen I only had a 3/4 tank full. So I have been filling up when the guage shows 1/2 because i wasn't sure if my guage was working properly.

thanks guys,
matt

I haven't had the fuel issue with my car, but I did have some gas station humor the other day. Some kid in a Prelude was leaving shortly after I got there and was out of my car. He stared at me and took off fast and chirped a tire on the 1-2 shift. Another guy looked at me and said "wow, he chirped his FRONT tire" with a roll of his eyes.
