Hydroboost problems

My cousin and his girlfriend both have 98 GT Verts. He noticed that his girlfriends car has a problem with the brakes.

He brought it over and I checked it out. When the car is running and you press the brake pedal down, it goes to the floor and there is a scream, from under the hood. With the engine off the pedal is firm.

So we poked around under the hood and noticed some fluid under the master. It wasn't brake fluid. He told me that a while back he noticed the power steering would lose fluid so he topped it off with regular power steering fluid with stop leak and the leak stopped. Problem is, the power steering system takes ATF.

So a couple of Q's.

1- What could the problem be with the brakes?? The power steering works great, could it be a bad hydroboost assy??

2- When he added powersteering fluid instead of ATF did he do damage??

could be a bad hydroboost assembly. i dont think he caused damage by putting in p/s fluid instead of ATF. when the hydroboost assembly gets replaced, just flush the p/s fluid with Mobil 1 ATF and all will be fine with the world.
