That's just how Massachusetts is. It's one of the most expensive states to insure in. I change my insurance company every 3-4 years shopping around.
You need to shop around. I pay less than $1200 per year for full coverage with low deductible on the 4Runner and liability, uninsured motorist, and towing on the Mustang II combined.
Yep! I remember having the same feeling when they quoted me that it was an absolute no brainer. Umbrella policy is the way to go. You have to remember that your kid is not the only concern and that their friends as passangers are your liability as well. The umbrella takes care of all that. Nice piece of mind. While we are at it, talking about coverage and protection, etc, how about Life Insurance. In my opinion that’s the most important thing you can do for your family if you have a spouse and especially kids. Kinda going off topic I guess but it’s important stuff and I’m sure many are interested in those discussions. Great piece of mind knowing that when your 6 feet under that your spouse can still make the bills and provide for the kids because you had them covered. Man, you know your old when your talking about insurance. Next we will be comparing medications. Heck, I can hang with that convo to! LolMy oldest is now 13 and I've had a $1M Umbrella policy for about 4-5 years now... But we also have a boat and if something happens while we are out on that with guests or whatever I want to be covered as well. I don't recall how much it is, but it was small compared to my overall spend and when they quoted me on it I didn't think twice.

Hey NickyAll this first time ,teenage,insurance talk takes me back 41 years ago. I'm 17 years old living in Queens ,New York city. I saved up for my first car by working at a Texaco all threw H.S. On my birthday my brother gave me his caddy car keys and wished me happy bday.I said oh I can use your car tonight?he said no your car, just get your own insurance. Our dad had passed four years before and mom never drove, so my insurance was $795 (1979 dollars) that was almost everything I saved. I got it titled and registered in my name then had one hell of a time having teenage sex in that caddy.Priceless!!!!!!

My job offers life insurance through our benefits, and automatically gives me 1x my salary for insurance. I always go another 3-4x on that at my own cost, usually like 15-20 bucks a check which isn't going to make my family set for life but would pay off everything we have, my funeral expenses, college for kids, and leave some leftover
That’s exactly right. Your doing it right. If everything can be paid off, funeral covered, school for the kids and a little left over then you nailed it and your spouse will love you for that God forbid. I’ve always been paranoid of leaving her hanging with no money, bills to pay and mouths to Feed. Although the insurance is an additional monthly bill, I felt the weight of the world lifted off my shoulders when my policy was approved. I didn’t tell my wife until it was done. She was a little freaked out at first because I tacked on an additional expense and felt like it wasn’t needed at that time but after I explained why I felt the need and what it would look like for her financially if I passed then she came around and said it’s the best thing I could have done and that she feels great knowing she won’t be up shyts creek if she finds herself alone at a young age and all the bills falling on her with half the income. But the major problem is that stupid people are everywhere! No matter where you go there are stupid people in office!!!!We need to vote them out!!!! That will fix the problem.Just one big quake, cali. Breaks away becoming an island, and I have water front property in Nevada. We came dream can't we?

If your a smoker don;t even bother because the price doubles.......Im 57 , and I keep getting an " I'm old paranoia" part of living in Florida. I have got to stop looking at the obituaries.

Your absolutely right about the age thing. Early to mid 40s is the best time to get a policy. Wait any longer and the rates bump up as you said due to age but also more of a chance from 40s into your 50s of developing a condition that will add additional charges to your rate. What may have cost you 75 bucks at age 40 may cost you 200 in your 50s due to the age increase and the high blood pressure meds, blood sugar levels, etc that maybe you didn’t have in your 40s. If your really unlucky by waiting you may become uninsurable due to a heart attack, stroke, etc that you survived in your younger age but now cannot get a policy or the rate will be unaffordable. Happened to lots of guys I worked with. They felt 40s was to young and they would wait until they retire but then in their mid or late 40s sometime early 50s they got hit with an unexpected medical issue and now are uninsurable. If you get a policy now you will be locked in so you don’t have to worry if you develop a condition afterwards that would have left you uninsurable or with crazy rates.If your in your early forties now is the time to buy a cheap life insurance policy. Awful to her that but at the same time glad to hear they are on top of it and getting the procedure done which in one of their cases saved her life! Very important stuff. If any of this random talk causes anyone to get life insurance, umbrella policies or schedule medical procedures for preventive maintenance then we actually helped each other and our families. This is the stuff that really matters in life. Glad all your sister in laws are on top of their known condition Pete and keeping healthy.Just for a rambling post with nothing to do. My wifes family is riddled with colon cancer. Six sisters all have had pollups taken out. Mother died of colon cancer. The doctor took out her sisters , and when she woke up he said" I just saved your life"
