I almost took it off!

Hey I need some engouragement here. I almost took of the tri-ax for stock again. Everyone knows that whatever clunkiness or notchiness you have only intensifies when you change out your stock shifter. 2nd-3rd is just clunky sometimes unless I baby it and every now and then I get a grind going from 2nd-3rd. Lately I have been getting tired of this. I tried out a friends stang the other day with the stock shifter. It definately takes a lot less effort to shift the gears with it stock, but it is really tall now that I am used to the tri-ax. I had a second thought when we went for a drive in it and he immediatley missed 3rd for 5th twice in a row! So I just went for a test drive in mine and I realized I was thinking crazy! Help sway me away from the stock side! What do you guys think? Should I put the stock back on?

When shifting to 3rd just push it into gear...don't grasp the knob. I just use the palm of my hand to push into 3rd and allow the Triax to do it's job and that is to find 3rd for me. Fifth is a little more involved but the race is usually over by then anyway...

Yes I have noticed this also. I can kind of flick it into 3rd with my finger and its goes pretty good. It just takes a second. I think for some reason our trans justs takes it a second to settle into and find 3rd gear. Weird
I must say that after I switched the stock leather shifter knob for the mach/bullitt I can feel the gears a little more precise now and it goes in a little bit smoother.

One more thing, make sure the plastic cup was installed on the ball of the shifter before you put it back into the 3650. If you don't, you will miss a lot of shifts and have a clunky action.

I don't have a 1-2 grind at all, and I also heard someone on here say they would not do it for an 04. Is that correct or not?

This isn't an expert opinion but just one I have formed gathering, reading information, and using these shifters. The tranny syncros require a fraction of a second to enable gear selection. Sometimes it feels as though it takes that split second away from a precise shift and it is compounded by the shorter throw of the aftermarket shifter. With the stock, since the throw is a little longer, you don't notice it as much. This is just my opinion though but it seems logical.

I have thought the same thing. I am just hoping that this isn't the sign of a bad syncro since I only really feel it on the 2-3 shift. It is weird though that it always goes perfect on the 4-3 shift.

I could NEVER go back to stock shifter. It just feels way to loose I like the notch feeling I get and the "click" when it goes in gear.

Sounds like the syncros to me.

I had mine in on warranty and all was good after.

Notchiness and all Id rather have my Tri Ax than stock. The stock shifter just feels so flimsy compared to the Tri Ax. I bought some rubber plumbing gasket strips at Home Depot yesterday. They are about 1/8" thick. I cut two pieces, made holes for the shifter bolts, and remounted the shifter. I can still feel some of the notchiness, but its some better.

If the shifter isn't working like it should, go in and complain until they do something about it. I've noticed mine is already a little notchy with less than 2k miles on it, but I've got another 3 years/28000 miles to get it fixed.

Like the others said, let the shifter work for you. It almost glides right into 3rd.

Exactly!!!

The reason all the aftermarket shifters feel that way is because they are solid billet or steel. The stock shifters are two piece steel with a nice rubber shock absorber connecting them. That piece of rubber soaks up the clunkyness (if thats even a word) you feel shifting into all the gears.
