I am going against what I said earlier and getting a Tweecer. EGR bypass anyone?

Hi guys,

I was going to buy a new EGR b/c mine has a leak that makes the car sound crappy. But I couldn't find the "full" version for one less than $300. So I figured, why spend $300 on an oem when I can get a Tweecer for $380 and just bypass it and also have the ability to tune my car! So I think I am going that route. Two questions:

#1 I am totally illiterate on this and don't even have one yet but I assume I just need to upload a file to it for the egr delete. Does anyone have this?

#2 Can I do this without the wideband and still get good results? I guess you test them by feel in this case?

To answer question 1: You don't need any special file for it, there is a scalar that you change to either 0 or 1 for off and on for the EGR. It's not 'bypassed' or even a wierd hack, just simply turning it off by the scalar, pretty nice.
 
Thats the easy stuff. Turning off and on options...fan settings. Its a whole different ball game for tuning the car.

Before you buy the tweecer, i would read about what all you have to do to tune a car. Make sure you are up for the challenge.

Or if it intimidates you like it did me:lol: just buy a pre04 PMS and tune the car that way. To turn the EGR off just trick the computer with the simple wire nut everyone uses.

I just hate people buying things before thinking them through. The tweecer is NO JOKE. I give a lot of respect to the guys who can tune their cars with them.
 
The 380$ non-R/T tweecer is the base no datalogging with that one. IMHO without datalogging your not able to check what your changes are doing or check to make sure they are actually working...so your tuning in the dark more or less.

If your only buying it to deal with a EGR problem dont buy it for that alone... repair or replace the EGR.

I plan on heads and injector change so no that was definitely not the only reason for buying it. [edit] re-phrase I am "wondering" if I can upgrade to the datalogging if I ever want to but can't be that bad without it if it started out that way. Last of all, small detail - I am a computer geek - so I am not intimidated by anything computer related. :)
 
Don't worry, you will figure it out as long as you have som patients and are willing to sift through all the info thats out there. You won't be dissapointed.

On another note, I have no idea why they even offer the base unit.

Same with I. Just wanted to make sure you thought it through cause there was a guy on here a while ago who bought one and had no idea what he was doing and was really frustrated.

I too think the r/t is a must.
 
I am already reading a lot and I don't even have the unit yet. The base may be all I want to work with right now. I know the R/T is better but after that added cost and the wideband vs. my mods and what I want it to do for me, I am ok with it for now. I just have to figure out how people did it without the datalogging.

My guess is that there might be some datalogging but not with the nice GUI that the R/T has. Dunno.
 
as far as I know no datalogging is possible with the base, and with an o2 meter it will be realy hard to know what point is what cause' it will not be in sync. plus your still not going to know if or what your doing is even making a +/- change. If your going to get a Wbo2 I would sug. getting the R/T now and then the wbo2. It is far more important to be able to datalog than have a W/B. Also alot of the calc. methods to make sure your going the correct direction/find those corrections are based on the numbers from the datalog.

To upgrade you will have to send it back and pay some more money, that means removing the tweecer from the car and shipping it...not my idea of fun or even good planning on that part and I am a freak about thrifty stuff.

It is difficult enough to get this stuff down even if you pick up on things quickly with a datalog feature, the datalog feature is preaty much a must have for the self tuner. Actually seeing what changes do to things like the lambsa/kamfr, idle, mid load driving, temps, timing, commanded A/F (with the W/B of yours or the dyno's), MAF transfer, and your slopes is next to impossible without the datalogger.
 
Eek. Ok, maybe I will get the R/T if the pic looks that grim. I thought I knew what the wideband does but I must have been wrong. So what exactly does it do? It makes a more accurate change than just have a 02? Or am I missing that? Sorry.:shrug:
 
W/B only tells your A/F at the exh. (were you put it). It is a very, very good idea to get one (hope to get one someday myself, santa...) but not as important as a datalog feature for the cost...your going to spend like at least 300$ for a good W/B *hint hint* not some cheapo autometer one** that price is more than the diff. in the base and R/T. What good is the A/F if you dont know what the rest of your changes are doing? of if your close when it comes to drivability issues? Gas milage? or if the changes are even accurate aside from the A/F?

IF you can swing them both DEF. GET IT TOGETHER, BOTH W/B and DATALOGING TOGTHER IS THE PERFECT SETUP. I would rather have the dataloging feature if it was one or the other...also for what a few pulls cost on a dyno you can use that W/B for a few to make sure your A/F is going were your commanding it to.

The narrow band sensors was designed to achieve a stoichiometric (14.7:1) mixture under closed loop conditions, as this is the point where optimum catalytic converter efficiency is achieved. There are ways to guess your actual air/fuel ratio (AFR), but there is only one tool which can give you exact values. That tool is the wide band oxygen sensor. The wide-band sensor expands on the principle of the two-state sensor narrow band function by incorporating a second chamber, the pump cell. The Wide Band Sensors are used in the pre catalyst position in the exhaust stream. They look similar to the Oxygen sensors that you have been accustomed to, however there are some differences. "
