...a freaking Bassani O/R X-pipe that will fit longtube headers! Do they even make one for longtubes? Anderson Ford has one but it doesn't mention anything about longtubes. If I can't find a Bassani, what does everyone think of Dr. Gas? Thanks.

I have longtubes on my 95' stang. I used a Mac Prochamber, which yields 8 more hp on they dyno over a Bassany X-pipe. I had to bend one of the pipes a little with a pipe-bender to make it fit my BBK headers, but it should bolt right up to a set of Mac headers.

I think Dr. Gas is your only choice for an X-pipe that will fit longtubes

Dr. Gas sucks ass. There product consistently scores lower performance numbers on they dyno when tested against their competitors, even though a Dr. Gas exhaust cost $100 more.

Damn. I haven't heard a lot about Dr. Gas but what I have heard was positive. Any idea as to the quality of the fit and finish? What about sound and performance?

Kurt, I don't really like the sound of a ProChamber. That is just me though. Plus, I want to do something a little different and I know a lot of people run ProChambers.

No no. If your car doesn't sound right, it's not because of the exhaust. You just have to put more motor behind it. Put a stout cam in it, and it will sound just fine. However, if that's the way you feel, I know that Bassani and BBK both make intermediaries for there longtubes. I know that Bassany makes an X-pipe.

No offense intended. I was referring to how you thought your car would sound should you install a ProChamber in it.

As far as I know, Bassini only makes LT headers for Foxes and only makes the x-pipe for the LTs for the Foxes. As for Dr. Gas x-pipes, I love mine. Combined with my LT headers and straight-through mufflers, it makes the car scream at the upper rpms. I constantly get compliments that I have the best sounding Mustang that people have ever heard. I've never heard of Dr. Gas dynoing lower than other brands .

As for fit and finish, it comes in peices so its basically up to your welder. My mechanic did a great job, I have more ground clearance with my X-pipe than I did with my stock h-pipe. Overall Im very satisfied with my Dr. Gas, and if theyre ever an option again, I know who Ill be going with .

I have an article in 5.0 Mustang with an exhaust intermediary dyno test showing it. I believe I have an MM&FF article showing the same results. You know how these magazines are. They repeat the same tech articles once a year. January = blower tech, February = exhaust tech, March = cylinder head tech, etc, etc.

This is going to take some article hunting. The first article I found was in a 5.0 Mustang magazine from November 1999. It compares a no cat H-pipe to a BBK prototype X-pipe. Peak horsepower increased from 247 to 252. Peak torque increased from 281 to 287. RPM ranges were the same for both.

OK, I found the article I was looking for. It's called the "X-files" and it was in the May 2000 issue of 5.0 Mustang.

Stock: HP = 247.6 TQ = 294.2
Bassani: HP = 276.6 TQ = 325.2
BBK Performance: HP = 277.1 TQ = 309.3
Dr Gas HP = 275.3 TQ = 302.7
Hedman hedders X-treme HP = 282.9 TQ = 322.7
MAC Prochamber: HP = 284.8 TQ = 322.7

The Prochamber came out ahead.

The car they tested with had an E303 cam, Cobra upper/lower, 24-lb/hr injectors, 65mm throttle body, and "a set of short-tube headers and a good after-cat exhaust system." Unfortunately they were not brand specific. The stock numbers were generated using the 4-cat h-pipe that came with the car.

I e-mailed Bassani and they DO NOT make an X-pipe for LT's. It looks like I will be going with the Dr. Gas.
