I can't get it out of the hole!?! (pilot bearing)

Ok so the trans is shot. I pulled it out and have a new king cobra ready to go in and hopefully buying a t5z this week.

Tonight i pulled the bellhousing and clutch assembly but no luck at all with the pilot bearing. I tried the whole grease and socket deal but that didn't work. So i tried a hammer and chisel but thats definatly not working.

I remember talking to my transmission guy and he said he had a puller for the pilot bearing and he would let me use it. If he still wants to let me use it i'll give it a try.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get it out? Or maybe a link to show what kind of puller i need?

Thanks ahead!

I also found a couple of EMPTY holes during this adventure. Looks like the lower starter bolt backed out and went bye bye, and there was one bolt missing from the trans to bellhousing :nice: Now i gotta go track down some bolts to fill those holes.

Ok so the puller (slide hammer) is my best bet. I'll talk to my trans guy tommorow and see if he will still let me borrow one.

The tool is the best, but many of the times the outer shell of the berring stays in, the tool just busts the inner part of the berring. Then I suggest using a die grinder/rotary tool/even a drill, with a grinding bit/stone and grind one side until it splits, and then is should come out, maby with the help of a screw driver. It won't hurt the crank if you nick it some, but just don't go all around with it.

Head down to your local auto parts store that loans out specialty tools for a 'small' refundable deposit, and ask for an 'inside bearing puller'. No real effort to it, easier than slide hammer job. Usually the inside bearing will come out first then the outside bushing will come out next. Hang on to the bushing, it makes putting the new bearing in a little easier IMO.
