My trans case is cracked and I need to transfer the internals to a new trans case. They are $200 new and I was wondering if anyone knew how to do it. Is it self explanitory when you open it up. For instance. If I opened it up would I be able to figure it out with an exploded diagram of the trans. Or should I pay someone to do it.

Reason being when the trans fluid leaked enough out to start grinding every gear I took it to my mechanic. He took the trans off because we thought it was the RMS. And thats when we discovered the crack. I now have the money to get the case. I just want to save some labor cost and do it myself.

Any info would help.

Dan.

Its not real hard to do but, that will depend on your mechanical experience and know how.
I would be very curious as to why it cracked and if it ran low on fluid.

Unless you are dead set on a new case i can save you a lot of money on a used one.
e-mail or p/m me.

The trans is a tko600 so I think finding a used case might be hard to find. I bought the trans new and when I totaled my 95 gt I saved it knowing I was getting another 5-speed mustang. Im assuming the collision from the front left did it. Although It didn't have any noticable cracks upon re-installation. Into the new car.

Thanks for the link stang22. I think Ill call a locall tranny shop and see what they can do for me. I doesn't look too dificult. But for the right price Ill have someone do it who has them apart everyday. That right up looks to be for a g-force kit on a t-5. I dont really want to try and figure out the differences for a tko.

I see.
No i don't have a used case for that.
In my opinion the Tko is a little harder to work on verses the T-5

I have also read somewhere that using a poly trans mount with factory motor mounts can crack various parts (trans related). i.e. bellhousing, trans case.

Can anyone comment on that. Because that is my setup. And I was tracking down nasty vibration that was solved by having the clutch pressure plate balanced in reference to the flywheel.

As you can see this trans has caused me some headaches lately.

Poly mounts are fine...not an issue. SOLID MOUNTS ARE AN ISSUE.

The top of the cases comes off one way, and you need to set all the internals back up. I agree with the above, depending on your ability you may or may not be able to put it all together. They only go together 1 way.... I'd upgrade to the alum fork while it is apart :nice:
