I don't think the 245 45 17's cut it

I had 255 45 17s on my stock Tri-bar rims and for some reason decided to put the 245 45 17's on the Cobra R replicas and man do they look small in the whell well. I took it out tonight post snow flurries and can't really tell how well they are going to hook up.....

I made the same mistake when i went with falken 451's....255s are much beefier looking.

So are you concerned with the sidewall of the new tires .... or the width?

FWIW, sidewall plays more of a factor in traction on the track than the width does. Sounds like you have a decent amount of wall (245/45).

I def. will go back to the 255's after I burn these up...I got Nankings this time....I will have to see how they wear.....I love the avatar.....grew up watching Adam West........

If you slightly brushed a curb ... would the rim hit first, or the tire?

I run 245's up front & I can't wait to get some 255-265's. I can't stand the fact that the rim has the edge. So I know how you feel ....

I can't run anymore than a 245/45 now, with my car being lowered. I was really surprised that the front would even hold that, no rubbage at all.

You must have it slammed -- mine is lowered quite a bit and I still run 275/40/17's without any trouble.

I think she was referring to the height (sidewall) .... not the width.

Heh... in which case you could probably do 315/85/17 . Thank you Ford for giving us more than enough room to run snow chains... but most of us don't drive our Mustangs in the snow . Even lowered quite a bit, I think it would be quite a while before diameter would become the issue .

Remember also that tire fit differs by brand, even with the same specs.

For example, I replaced my hyper expensive Michelins with Kumhos (don't bash the Kumhos, I love them ) on my DD. Both tires are exactly the same spec. The Michelins looked like they were clearly undersized (had that stretched look), but the Kumhos look just right.

No one has mentioned that the factory tribars are 17x8 and most Cobra R replicas are 17x9. So, chances are you put a smaller tire on a wider wheel. So yeah, they look way smaller in comparison. You can get Cobra Rs in 8, 9, and 10.5 widths from AFR.

Yeah, I'm guessing that you probably have 17x9's with those R's, so a 245 would look kind of slim on them.

Just like Rootus, I run 275/40's all around and I have a pretty big drop on my car, everything works fine.

Your exactly correct sir.......they are......and I thought the Tri-bars were either 7 or 8 wide........Oh well, I don't think I'll have too much problems spinning them off...lol.....gotta find the cord to the camera so I can do a "smokey burn out" vid............
