Alright, I'm sure we've all been through this.

I'm also pretty sure some of you guys lift and such after reading the torn miniscious thread.

Anyway, I'm currently just under 200lbs and about 5'10"
I'd like to get to around 160-170 and tone up a bit.

What do you guys do to exercise, any suggestions? I use to play football back in HS and was probably in the best shape of my life... Now it feels like I'm slacking and losing where I wanna be.. I've also noticed I have less energy and seem to be lazy..

Anyway, suggestions?

get off your fat ass and do about 150 pushups and 150 sit ups a day, and run 10 miles every morning. trust me, this can be done. i did that and more in basic training! you'll like what you see in the end after just a few weeks...but stick with it for 6-8 weeks, 6 days a week. then just do like 50 each and a mile or two 3 times a week. good luck!

I'm in the same boat.... just 6 foot tall. Not into that exercise/work thing. LOL

I gave up soft drinks for the second time in my life. Made it 9 months back in college, then some stupid waitress brought me a regular instead of diet. Ruined me.

So far so good. After the first month, your energy level will suddenly rise.

cut the junk out of your diet, eat smaller meals more times a day, do cardio at a minimum of 3 times a week, life some moderate weights so you gain some muscle and don't look malnourished

don't do any pushups or situps is boring , you have to find something funny and interesting , something like running in the woods , jumping over the rocks , broken trees you now , every day you can select diffrent patch but be careful , wear good shoes to protect your ankles , listen music to keep you motovated , try fit this into your life style

I used to work out over 5 years until i came here (U.S.) and my shape is not so great now , I am 6.2 235-245 pounds (thick bones hehe)

This is my routine... I bring a notebook every day to the gym and record my progress. Here's the last week. This is an Eastern Conjugate style, which I learned by reading Joe DeFranco's website www.defrancostraining.com.

Monday - Max effort upper body
1. Max bench - (up to 1 rep at max weight)
2. Incline bench - 3 sets x 8 reps
3. Lat Pulldowns - 4 sets x 10 reps SUPERSET into Delt flies 4 sets x 10 reps
4. Barbell Curls - 3 sets x 8 reps (yeah I know its a useless muscle but whatever)
5. Abdominals - Crunches SUPERSET Bicycles SUPERSET Leg Raises x 3

Tuesday - Max Effort Lower Body
1. Free squat - Up to 1 rep max
2. Weighted Figure Skated lunges - 3 sets x 12 reps
3. Glute-Ham raises - 3 sets x 8 reps
4. Grip work - Barbell Shrugs 3 sets x 8 reps SUPERSET Dummbell Pinchgrip x 30 seconds

Wednesday - OFF

Thursday - Repetition Upper Body
1. Pushups on pushup bars - 3 sets to failure
2. Seated Cable Rows 3 sets x 8 reps SUPERSET Pull ups 3 sets x 6 reps
3. Lateral Raises - 3 sets x 8 reps
4. Hammer curls 3 sets x 12 reps SUPERSET Dumbbell tricep extension 3 sets 8 reps
5. Abdominals - Weighted crunches 3 sets x 10 reps SUPERSET Dumbbell Side Bends 3 sets x 10 reps

Friday - Repetition lower body
1. 4 Mile run
2. Weighted sled drag, 3 x 30 yard pull

Saturday - Light circuit training, light cardio... or stuff like walking the dog, yard work, hunting, etc etc

Sunday - OFF day

Sounds intense, and it is... but you'll find that you are looking forward to your workouts after a week or so.

If you want to cut look through this before starting, will help you a lot. All the other areas in that forum are great too. It's the easiest way to explain.

It's easier to start with mountain biking, cycling, rowing, swimming etc. Running when you're too heavy is torture on your joints, trust me

I was thinking about this after I wrote my routine up... thats not really gonna help you!

I was trying to advocate strength and here's why: I get bored with just running, situps, and pushups. Its the same thing over and over. As you start to get bored, its easier and easier to skip a day here and there. I like strength training because you are burning a ton of calories, you're changing your body shape for the better, and because you need to get more involved in it you don't get as bored. I have all kinds of excel spread sheets, notebooks, etc.

The hardest part is that first 6 months when you lay the basic foundation of strength. After that its awesome. Charting your progress is great as well, you can see yourself plateau and then make adjustments, etc etc

There's no sense in looking like Tarzan but lifting like Jane...

Adam

Nik, you are not small.

For all of you trying to build muscle or lose weight just remember 80% of true weight lifting is your diet the other 20% is lifting.

Sade, grab a buddy whom works-out, knows what he's doing and who is not a ton bigger than you are, and tag along. This will provide a decent level of comfort and ease your mind a bit.

Good luck.
