The vent tube is actually inside the bigger filler tube. (at least it was on every other Ford I've owned) What happens is when you put gas in the tank, the amount you pump in displaces the same amount of air that's in the tank....and if that air has no where to go (vent tube)....it pressurizes the tank and is forced up the filler tube (sprays gas on ya..) Fix the vent tube and you should have no problem filling up! That doesn't mean just leave the tube out, it has to be in there to work properly.

Wow - Didn't realize there were so many people with the same problem...I've probably owned 10+ cars, and no other car had this problem. I've tried pushing the nozzle all the way in, barely pushing it in, halfway, etc...doesn't matter. If I don't watch what I'm doing, I create a mini waterfall.

Some filler necks are like that, I found on some vehicles I have owned to pull the nozzle out a little bit and dont go (full throttle) on the thing.
As to spilling gas on myself no problem I love 89 octane one of my favorite scents, and it can only atrract the right kind of women.

I don't know how to quote sorry, but to the guy who last posted about the v-dubs vent tube....I don't know what to say. BUT, I will say that on the fords I've owned, the vent tube is inside the filler neck. I know from experience that if the vent isn't where it's supposed to be it's just a pain in the ace to fill.
All I can say to everyone that's had the same problem as the original poster, is check the vent tube! It's free, and not too terribly difficult!
Trust me, do it now while its kinda nice out. When winter comes if you have to fill up, it could take a bajillion years.....and that sucks standing in the cold.
