I have tried searching but how much of a gain with timing

how much of a horsepower gain will I get with adjusting my timing? I have found that most people are going to around 14 advanced, but I know every car is different. I am wondering if anyone knows how much of a gain at the wheels there is by doing this. My car is stock 91 mustang lx 5.0 HO. I will be getting a magnaflow catback this weekend.

I don't think it is a huge number if thats what you are thinking about. I bet it is under 10 hp off the crank.

I used to have a book of dyno tests on 5.0 mustangs. On a stock 5.0, bumping the timing from 10-14* gave about 5-7hp at the flywheel. Not a lot, but it's free, except for the cost of 92 octane.

It always seemed to me that advancing the timing also gave better throttle response... The car just felt "snappier" overall. Could just be me.

Oh yeah, and ditch the air silencer if you haven't already, and you're still running the stock air box.

I've heard around 5hp, but like stated above, you will notice better throttle response too. Just make sure you listen closely for pinging.

Probably true if some jackass set the base timing at 10* AFTER top dead center. Don't laugh, I've seen it on a 460 EFI.

actually truth be told, my timing was like at 8 degrees, as it hadn't been set in years, and at the track we bumped it to 16 degrees, and I picked up nearly 3/4 of a second from that, but I was severe the wrong direction. It's a great mod, but it IS a free mod, so enjoy it, and keep saving.
