I recently purchased a set of hood pins for my Cobra R Hood on my 91 GT and was wondering if there were any special tricks that I should know about before putting these on. The pins are the little round key type that fits flush mounted on the hood and not the actual old style pins. The kit came with no instructions. I have enough common "know how" to put them on. Just never have before. Thanks

Remember also that the locking pins that you have are not made to retain the hood, just for security. If your main latch fails they more then likely will not hold the hood down. If you are trying to keep the hood from flying away on you, get real pins.

Besides all the wrong type pin stuff. Most people use the stock location of the OEM hood bumps. Then take a bit of toothpaste or nail polish and put on the tip of the ( I know im gonna catch hell for this) rod or what ever your call it. Drop the hood down and thatll mark the locations of your drilling holes.

Once you get them locked in and ready to go, get some heater hose (or something near the diameter of the "rod" and cut to be about the same height as the orgional hood bumps. This will provide you with a hood bump, and hood pin in 1 location without having to drill out new holes in the front of your stang. Good Luck.

Good guidance there Joe.

The locking pins might take a little more finesse than the regular pins as well since they dont have the pointed tops also. Just make sure that when you drill the holes that you drill a pilot hole from the bottom into the top layer of the hood and use that as a guide. Place masking tape over the holes and drill it from the top slowly and carefully so the fiberglass does not splinter. IT will make a nicer hole. ON the bottom side drill the pilot hole first and then tape and drill the larger hole to avoid the splintering on the bottom.....
Kinda backwarsd there drill the bottom first and then do the top.

You'll have to play with the height a little too to make sure that the latches lock into place properly.

Need advise

I have the same locking hood pins that matty469 has on my 65 fastback.
The car has an Eleanor 2 fiberglass hood and does not have any other hood latching mechanisms other than the locking pins.
(Actually I do not believe that the hood comes with provisions for a standard hood latch)
The car is almost finished and the builder is comfortable with this set up.
What are your thoughts?
What are my options?
Thanks,
Scott

I had those same pins on my 88 GT used along with the factory hood latch for more than 5 years. No Problems What so ever. I mounted them next to my hood stops. You will want to keep the hood stops as they adjust the hood.
here is a picture after 5 years and many of 120+ MPH trips.
