I need new rims and tires

My son had to drive my stang for a few days while his was out of commission. Long story short, he hit a patch of black ice, spun out, lost control, and went over a really high and sharp curb, killing 3 tires and ruining 2 rims. Luckily, nothing else happened and he and the car are fine otherwise.

Suggestions? I'm thinking I like the 17" Bullitt rims with the 10.5" rears, but I don't want this to become a $1500 project, so I need some rims for which the tires aren't too expensive.

I'm also thinking maybe some take-off bullitts would be fine.

I am also open to buying someone's old stock rims and tires if you want to get rid of them ... that'd probably be the most economical route.

Talk to me.

Does anyone have pics of a black SN95 vert with bullitt rims?

venom, i might be interested ... what size are the rims and which tires are on them?

from now on i, my wheels are going to have to have all-season tires because i need to be able to drive the stang when it is cold outside.

been shopping around ... so far i cannot find a better deal than americanmuscle.com. the free shipping and free mounting and balancing is what puts them ahead.

Chris, this where I got mine and I got the cheap sumitoyo tires on them. They are actually decent in the cold and even a little bit of snow/rain. Not the grippiest tire but for the price with wheels go for it man.

Discount Tire Direct is great. They have free shipping and sell all kinds of rims and tires. Normally they have a special if you buy wheels and tires. I also think they will beat anyone's price.

This is Discount Tire Direct not your local Discount tire or website....normally your local will match the Direct price. I just did this for another car I have it has 17" tires and the ones I was looking at were around $140 ea locally. On the Direct website they were $95 ea. The local store matched the price.

Yeah, Sumis are worthless for traction. I totally understand people on a budget that want some big tires, but don't plan to do well in a race.

Ya know I LOVE (personal preference) my '98 cobra wheels and they can be had from Summit for $109 a piece. If you wanted to go the new route.

Here's my car:

Just to better re-state what I mean by this:

The tires are not that great at all... BUT they do not get much worse when the weather gets cold (it was -2'F this am and they still grip fine).

I have had summer tires that as of about 40'F they get bad then at 20'F they do not grip at all and even had the car whip around on me because they lost traction coasting through an offramp very carefully... (Goodyear Eagles)...

So while not the best tire for what you get they are decent, not great...

update ... wheelreplica called me back and said they can sell me a set of 17x8 SC wheels with Hercules Raptis all-season tires shipped for $899.

I kind of like the rims ... anyone know about these tires?

i'll have to check them out

what i have found is that none of the tires for a 10.5" rim are all-season. at least that is how it looks from what i have seen so far. and tires for 18" rims are more expensive then the same tires for 17" rims

i know exactly what you mean. my toyo r-888s are (were) great when it is warm out ... but when it gets cold out, they have terrible traction. combine that with the 410 cubes under the hood, and it is a recipe for disaster. summer tires definately contributed to the problem i have currently.

ok, discount tire direct is the new leader.

they have some "Hot Wheels" 68 17x9 rims with Hankook Ventus HRII H405 tires mounted, balanced and shipped for $744. they are polished aluminum rims that originally sold for $180 each but they are on clearance so they are only $90 now.

i'm liking them ... and i'm sure they are not what most people have. the rims are unique, the tires are all-season, and the price is great

the tires are Hankook Ventus HRII H405 - anyone know about these?

I hate them tires.... my 315s have less grip then some 165's
I completely agree, the sumi tires are rated or classed as Ultra Summer performance tires and suck in wet conditions. If I had known this I would have saved more and purchased a better set of tires. Looking through Discount Tire reviews I'm really thinking of upgrading to the Nitto Invo. I'm going to need a tire I can trust in rain (lots of rain).

Those have that Crager S/S look to them, I'm having a hard time picturing them on a sn95. Maybe some one can photo shop it. I'd look through the reviews and see which tires match your weather conditions the closes.
