FWIW, I'd prefer takeoff bullitts over the Hot Wheels. The Hot Wheels are "different", definitely, and it might grow on me, but I like the bullitt look better. Besides, I've seen a set of 4 takeoffs with brand new rubber go for $350-500 on C-list.

But, that's just my opinion...

a guy on craigslist dc has some 2003 cobra wheels and tires for $450. i sent him an email to look at them tomorrow

Sorry to hear but take this advice. Tires is a big deal for me so I put alot of time and effort in what works and what doesn't. The cheapest "best" tire are a set of Falken 452s. They have great grip in the summer and in the cold plus they last a long time. They are alittle over $100 a tire. Whatever you do stay away from Kumho, Sumitomo, Yokohama, etc..

Here is a good place on the net that has them but before you buy them ask around town. Alot of the times the places around town will match online prices. Falken FK-452 Tires for Sale Online - Vulcan Tire Sales

Believe me, traction in both summer and winter is very important to me. I do not want to have to buy new wheels and tires (or have something worse happen) again.

Well, I went with the DiscountTireDirect Hot Wheels. I ordered them online from DiscountTireDirect for $756 shipped with the Hankook tires because the Falken tires were included in the package deals they offered, but I am calling them to see if I can upgrade to the Falken 452s.

I think this is a great deal, seeing how the Toyo tires I had before ran me $1000 just for the tires. $200 each for the fronts and $300 each for the rears.

No offense but I think those Hot Wheels wheels look really cheap. I wouldn't get em. You have a nice a car.

Obviously you have a right to voice your opinion and I respect that. Here is my perspective:

The rims ARE inexpensive ... and that is what I can afford right now. That is the reason why they came up in the first place. At this point, price is a whole lot more important than looks.

And FWIW, my car is not as nice you might think it is. In fact, I think it's a junker. The paint is old and worn, the seats are ripped, the radio doesn't work, the tranny doesn't shift correctly, there are exhaust leaks, it pings when I step on it, the passenger door won't close with the window up all the way, and there is a coolant leak. Other than that, it's great!

Now don't get me wrong, I still love it. But the only thing nice about it right now it is that it has a big ass motor in it. To make it nice again will take more than a couple grand and another year. And frankly, I'm kinda tired of pouring time and money into it.

Chris I noticed my grippy tires suck in the cold weather as well. These look awesome too!

Bullitts with the deep dish in back was my dream. But I have 3 problems with it:

- I have never seen those sweet looking big ass tires in the back come in anything but summer only.
- Those wide tires are not inexpensive.
- This is an extremely budget oriented project.

The DiscountTireDirect guy called to tell me they did not have the Hankook tires in AZ where the rims are, which gave me a perfect opportunity to ask for the Falken tires at a discount. He was very nice and gave them to me for $10 more than the Hankooks (each).

So now it is $793 shipped for polished Hot Wheels 17x9 rims with 245/45/17 Falken 452s. That is under $200 per wheel and tire. I think that is a really good buy.

He says they should arrive sometime next week.

That's an incredible deal Chris. About time something goes your way. Now put a rev limiter on it at 2500RPM like I would and let the kid drive it lol.

This is not a reflection on Chris as I can attest that those tires get SLICK but yes there is a correlation with age Adam:
