I need Speed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 87 5.0 notch with an AOD and 2.73 out back.
the best time is a 10.61 @ 68.29mph in the 1/8th
Really slow!!!

My A/C is slowly going out. So I am going to gut that out real soon.
This is going to be more of a strip car eventually.

My questions is with the emissions.
Removing the smog pump/egr/cats etc.
Will there be any problems with running or idle etc doing this
besides getting o2 eliminators.

On my stock setup how much nos can I use before most breakdowns

dude you must have no traction. my vert runs 9.6-9.7 with 2.73 65mm tb cobra intake, headers o.r. H and flows. i was running 9.8s before i did the intake.stay out of the water box (unless your runing slicks) and try launching at different rpms.

I burn off the water off my tires and I dont slip off the line its just slow for some reason

if you have street tires do not get in the water. it will stay in the tread and youll spin alittle, thats probably costing you at least .25 right there. what are you launching at? i usualy leave the line at around 1300-1500 anymore and i start to spin. what mods do you have? whats your 60 ft time? mine is in the 2.15 to 2.2 range.

Hmm....That would be about a 16.55 @ 86.05 mph in the 1/4.....I think something is wrong with your engine. Does it burn any oil or anything like that?

Wow, those are horrible times man.

You will probably have to adjust idle, timing, etc... when removing smog equipment. But I can tell you. That isn't going to make your time any better. You probably need a tune up, gears, exhaust, at least, to get you in the 9's.

It has ford racing headers and newer cats and flowmaster exhaust.

with that time it was with stock timing.etc

I have a tps fault but the tps is replaced??????
reaction was .6713.....im a new with the tree
60ft--2.4481
I launch about 1200-1400 rpm with no spin ---I cant hardly even chirp tires on the regular street even at this launch rpm

It doesnt burn oil......I still get 18 miles per gallon semi-highway.

I just dont know

Is the car speed density?

There has to be a bigger problem than just the timing being low. My old bone stock '92 gt ran 9.6.

just because you dont hear it dont mean your not spinning. a tune up, plugs wires cap rotor check your timeing and your tps. what kind of tires do you have. I really think with those 60ft your spinning more than you think.

I would check for codes, koeo and koer, cylinder balance test, maybe a compression test, full tune up(plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, timing) just to check as much as possible, because I agree that those times sound really slow, even for an aod. If you get everything sorted out, I would add gears, stall, and shift kit.

I have new wires plugs cap and rotor.
it has 108,000 and havent had a compression check.
I need to get a fuel regulator with a gauge ---so if any one has one let me know.

my tires are 245/50 r16 sumic gt50

You mention getting O2 eliminators, O2 sensors are your friend, you must have them if you're running EFI. If you have them out now or something that could be where some of your power is at. The emissons stuff wont net you much. And I wont use n2o on my new engine let alone 100+k, but that part is just my opinion.

"Seasoned" stock AOD with 2.73s = high 15s/low16s. You're right around the time when my transmission gave out, so consider rebuilding with a shift kit, converter and gears. The '60 is pretty bad, so check to see that your posi is still working correctly. Keep in mind that the 2.73s bog really bad off the line, up to 20 MPH or so. If you dare, do the shuffle but it will probably put the nail in the AOD's coffin. Driving skill and proper technique will only get you so far with your car's combination.

converter, gears and shift kit will drop alot of time off. i would stay away from the gas on a stock aod.

my car is a 87 lx speed density aod with over 100k miles.It has 2 1/2 inch exhaust with 2 chamber flows,bbk shorties and a bauman shift kit.I also have the stock 2.73 gear with 27 inch back tires.I ran a 15.2 at 93.76 mph.Some cars are just faster than others.

Try leaving the line at idle and then push it to the floor, dont slam it down. makes better use of what little stall may be in the converter.
