I read about every gear post on here. Everybody said, get FRPP gears, and you'll be fine. But i wanted 3.90's and went with motive, well now i want set my car of fire and put my car in the bottom of the lake. It whines so fuggin loud that i cant even handle riding in it for 5 minutes.
I spent $165 on gears and $200 on install. I dont know what to do now. The dude that installed them comes highly highly recommended in my area. Every single person in my mustang club has gone to him with no problems. I specifically asked him if he can install Motive gears since they are supposed to be harder. He said he has never had a problem on gear installs. Well, i guess this set of motives
the dude.
He put the gears in (2 hours), took the car for a test drive and they whined a little. He asked if thats how it was before i came in, i told him ***** NO. So he took everything apart again and said he would re shim it. He did it again (another 2 hours) and took it for a test drive. They whined ever worse, but he was pretty much giving up. He told me i should have got frpp instead, and told me that actually gears are supposed to whine a little because then you know they are set up properly. Whatever dude. But i watched him, and he said he set the pinion depth and backlash to stock specs.
What do i do now. I dont want to spend another $200 of frpp's and $200 on install. I want to keep 3.90's because i dont want to run out of gear at the track when i get my procharger. Do i chalk it up to Motive gears suck and they whine? But a bunch of people on here have them and say there's are quiet. OR should i call and find a person that KNOWS motive and can re adjust them and see if they dont whine. But then i dont want to spend another $200 on having them re adjusted if it is the gears and not the install.
