I should have listened to you guys, wasted $350

whoa dude it's ok... slow down.

the gears will wear polish to each other. get them adjusted to spec right now. they should be fine. they may have been machined out of tolerance or installed wrong. get them reinstalled to minmum clearance and they'll be fine... unless the case hardening is torn off. i doubt that. i use frpp myself.

Hey Mossberg, next time i'm up that way, we need to hook up. I wanna know whats it like to have 4.11:nice:
No problem man. The key word is "traction limited" with the Kuhmos I have on my bullits.:D But when she hooks, the car pulls like a rocket.

I'm ordering some BFG tires for my Saleens and will see how the car launches after that.:nice:

Running a taller tire is a patch, get the gear thats right for your application...."my car should trap 200, i HAVE to get 4.10s cuz everyone on the internet says so...guess ill run a 44 inch mud tire" :rlaugh:

But seriously, 4.10s are sick for N/A purposes (yes I need them), but NOT for every purpose. Were this a POWERFUL race car, then sure...28-32 inch tires help with traction and actually grow more on the big end. But this is a street car, 26X10 DOT slicks will do fine for him.

No offence or anything but buying taller tires (they are heavier to boot!) still GEARS YOU THE SAME! Your not going to do any better lol, just will cost you more money and you cant run on street tires...(like if you DD with DRs). And 28s in the back and 26s up front look funny imo.

then what about when he is DD the car, 4.10s + blower = run out of gear VERY fast, and 0 traction.

Auto+3.73s+S/C= great setup. Plenty of load out on the street (SCs love load), and still nice highway milage :D.

^ Yeah, everyone keeps telling me to get taller tires. I'm not doing that. I actually like racing at the track on street tires. It's like pitting my car, in daily driven street form against others.

Also, cars with slicks cannot run against the street legal cars at the local track here. I would have to run the other slicks/skinnies cars = 10 sec or faster cars. That ain't happening!

Anyone who says that the quality of the gears is the reason for whine is a dumbass.... its the install plain and simple.

My friend installs gear sets all the time and he does plenty of Motive gears and none have ever whined.

He had 1 case where an FRPP gear set whined and after taking them out and reinstalling them they were fine.

I did 3.90's by Motive and have had them for 2 years and 35k miles and no whining and no problems. There is no point in spending more money for items that are made by FORD. The reason they are more expensive is cuz they are made by FORD.

on the street your not going to run full 1/4 miles very often. by using tire height to tune the gear ratio you can get it perfect and cross the traps at the top of 4th.

I am not saying that 4.10's are perfect for every application, but this idea of running out of gear at the stirp is easy to prevent. I have seen a few members on here swap gears and transmissions because they ran out of gear, if thats the only reason they switched then it's such a waste of money.

Well I strongly disagree with you about running a taller being a patch. This is a method used by drag racers of all levels to get the most out of the car.

The way I see it, when your stock get 4.10's or even 4.30's then if you go to a KB run a tall tire at the track and as for 1/4 mile runs on the street... WHY? it's illegal you should not be running 115+ plus mph on public highways..

even 1 inch taller of a tire makes quite a big difference in what MPH you can run before you run out of gear.

with the stock 25.681 inch tire your speed at 6100 rpm's in 4th with 4.10's is 113.670 mph.

going up 1 inch increases that to 119 mph at 6100

At somepoint everybody needs to decide what they want to build there car to do.. If running fast at the strip is your goal then the steeper gears and taller tire works better. The only draw back is you have to use a taller tire all the time

Well, thats fine but you will never run the full potential your car can run. If you want to use the track as a timed street simulator then hey thats your choice. with the power you have your probally giving up .5 to a full sec by having to baby the launch.

I called the install guy that i was supposed to go (he couldnt do it saturday) for some advice. He also thinks it was a bad install. I would take it to him to see if he could adjust them, but he thinks its too late. He thinks if i drove on them that they already wore and its too late. He says the will last fine, but they will whine forever. Sucks, now it sounds like i have to get new gears if i want the whining to stop.

Well SVT this is a very debatable answer and there really is no defenant answer....it comes down to what the individual person wants.

The problem I have is that you HAVE to go on 28inch slicks/sticky tires. You cant just run down there to see what it will do in 100% street trim. I dont like limits at all, so I guess that would seriously bug me. I like getting real world times and all out drag times, and kinda compare the 2. I think alot of people feel the same way.

HOWEVER if your car only sees the track in full drag trim, then sure that method would work...or if your car is drag only. Im not saying that it doesnt work, or that it isnt used....but its mainly used on racecars. There are more reasons than they dont want to change out there rear gears.

1. Taller tires bite better
2. the can run a steeper gear (to help off the line) and the taller tires will grow more, effectivly making their gear ratio go higher the faster the car goes (= best of both worlds)
3. Tires will actually last longer.
4. taller tires are easier to get in super wide configurations.

But SVT it is an alternative that should be explored, depending on what the owner feels the cars purpose is, and how he/she wants it to be. Options are always good.

(and I wasnt trying to insult you with the mud tire thing, just trying to put out an exaple so people could easily see my position :nice: Sorry if it did.)

I've had 3.90s for a year now. No whine at all. Your installer is being an idiot. Get your money back.

Motive's are tougher to install? So what? Why would I give a sh**? That's what I'm paying the installer for. I guess you just need to have a good installer do it.....

BTW -- but I've heard on several forums that Motive MAKES the FRPP gear sets.
Can anybody confirm this?

BS!
Tell him that you want your gear to be installed right. If its worn to the point where he can't shimm it, then he really did croppy install.
Tell him you want what you paid for. They can just shimm it at the carrier, instead at pinion now to make it easier.
Don't take no for an answer!

Well, guess i'll jump in here.....on my last mustang which was a V6, no V6 hating please. I got 3.73's installed, don't know which brand, it didn't matter to me...gears are gears. the place that did the install i got them to redo it 3 times before i gave up on there abilities. it howled/whined everytime, it got a little better by the 3rd try but it still whined. But I will say after a few months the little bit of whine that was there disappeared....so to the original poster, just get him to keep trying to get it right, the customer should be satisfied IMO, and if your not then they should do it till its right. no need to purchase a new set of gears....thats retarded.
