I think my TPS is screwy...

I'm not sure, but I think my TPS might be off. 40mph, 4th gear, the motor is surging a little, only mabye 100-150 rpms, but i can feel and hear the car doing it. Would this be from the TPS being incorrectly adjusted? I dunno if it'd have anything to do with it, but the previous owner also replaced the IAC not long before I bought the car.

might hook up with 88SC GT - he has the same issues (and had the same code). im out of ideas for him, but maybe you two can compare notes.

good luck. :)

yes, i am having the same issue. what did you do to fix it eagle?

i got code 63 which is the tps circuit failure, and code 23 is voltage related.

i started with 23, adjusted it and put in a new fuel pump. went away, car was running good. ran my codes, and i had code 63. ran fine for a few more days, now recently it has started it again. code 63 is gone, but now code 23 is back :bang:

8y0, youll be going along at a consistant rpm and it almost cuts out real quick right?

not cutting out, just surging slightly. now that someone mentioned it, i know five ohs have noisy fuel pumps, and mines stock i'm sure, but its REALLY noisy, it may be on its way out. i want to replace it, but right now i've got 3,000 in drivetrain stuff i wanna fix first...

Had the exact problem. Hook up a volt meter to the tps like you going to set it up ( pretty sure it's the green wire). With the key on engine off you should get just below 1 volt, you the proceed to slowly move the throttle open watching the volt meter, once mine got to about 2.25 V it went dead. then at around 3/4 throttle it came back to about 3.50V. This means I had a dead spot in it, bought a new tps and it's perfect. hope that helps :nice:

this is something the previous owner mentioned. said the tps was replaced and needed to be adjusted a little. i haven't had a chance to look at the voltage yet cause its wet and crappy outside and i dont wanna deal with that. but it looks like the only way to adjust it is to turn it...and that means drilling...or seems like it anyways.

Michael and S& 2B's have mentioned that as long as the TPS setting is within parameters (of not tossing a code), it will zero at upon start up. others have claimed that setting it manually does help (removes one more variable or thing the puter has to do).

if you cruise easily at the same rpm's in other gears, does the same thing happen?

good luck.

im pretty sure mine is the tps now too.

driving along, it always seems to be the same spot in the pedal. seems like a dead spot, so im going to replace the tps and go from there.

sounds like you can just adjust yours. i had to drill mine out slightly to get the right voltage also

no idea. transmission took a crap about a month ago, i can start and run it, but i'm scared to put it in gear. i'm just saving up for a whole new driveline, but when i had it running...i dont think it did it...then again, i generally cruised in 4th or 5th gear, never really paid much attention to the other gears.

hey i dont have a scan tool and home, and i know on GM's you can use a little specialty key and check the flashing check engine light for sequences for codes...will the mustang do that too if ya just use a paper clip or something and connect the right pins in the fuse box?

Shouldn't you adjust the TPS to .900 volts with the engine idling?

again, some say the puter zeroes out anything within spec (+/- 25%). others report dialing it in helps a little with surging issues, etc. i would not test it with the motor running - only key on, engine off. no need to have the motor running, so long as your battery is not half dead.
0.900 volts is close enough (DVS was saying what his did as he opened the throttle - one should see a gradual and consistent rise from base setting of around 1.0 volts to ~5.0 volts).

scanning: yep a paperclip works. Jrichker has posted some nice info on pulling codes doing so. a search of his posts will reveal the info.
good luck with getting it back up and running.
