I thought this was self explanatory........

Alright, I just got my Pro-M 75mm MAF in the mail the other day, and I went outside yesterday to hook this bad boy up to my '87 stang.

I popped the hood and kind of stared at my engine in a trance-like state.

Two questions.

1) Why is there a "pigtail" on the 75mm MAF I ordered which doesn't look like
it snaps on to anything?

2) What type of part do I need NOW in order to hook this thing up in place of
my old 56mm MAF?

Check the pigtail out. It may be that the existing connector will plug in without the pigtail or any modifications.

If it does not, then you get to splice and solder the connections. Red goes to red, black to black, dark blue/orange to dark blue/orange and tan/light blue to tan/light blue. Use solder and heatshrink to make the splices: do not use crimp on splices or electrical tape. See http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=7 for tips on how to do a professional quality job that will not cause problems.

I am referring to the pigtail on the sensor. hold on.....let me show you.

See the black MAF? That pigtail does NOT match up with the plastic adapter on the wire that comes from the computer (I'm assuming it comes from the computer).

Am I supposed to take the pigtail off? I think if I took the pigtail off, then the computer wire would match with the adapter ON the black sensor itself, it just doesn't match up to the adapter on the pigtail.

However, the paper that came with the MAF says that if I take the pigtail off it will void the warranty.

Are you suggesting I take the pigtail OFF and then try to plug the wire adapter DIRECTLY into the sensor itself?

Yes. There are two styles of MAF connectors on Fords: an oval one and a retangular one. The adapter makes sure the MAF will fit your application no matter which style plug is on your wiring harness.

See http://www.massairsystems.com/PIGTAILS.htm for more information and some pictures.

Ah hah! It's an oval to rectangle pigtail and the wire that goes to the computer is rectangle while I'm trying to plug it into the oval pigtail adapter.

So the solution would SIMPLY be to unplug the pigtail and plug the wire DIRECTLY into the sensor. I was just worried b/c the paperwork said if I take the pigtail off it will void the warranty.

I just wanted to be sure that unplugging the pigtail was what I really wanted to do.:nice:
