I have a chance to buy a running 1977 Granada for $150. The car has the 250 I6 engine. I've searched through our threads (and other sites), trying to find if the Granada swap can be done using the I6 spindles. Some sites say use only V8 spindles. There seems to be conflicting information about 11" and 10" rotors, or lighter duty spindles being used. Is there a difference in these spindles? I haven't checked all of the on-line auto parts stores, but NAPA (and several others) has the same part numbers listed for all Granadas, regardless of the engine.
Has anyone done the swap with I6 spindles?

As you have discovered and despite a lot of the talk to the contrary, all 75-80 Granada/Monarch and 74-77 Maverick/Comet disc brake systems are identical. You will find only one rotor, one caliper, specified for all applications in those years

I used my dad's old 78 I6 Granada for the brake swap. Everything is the same, and I ran into no problems. As you saw looking thorugh the parts stores there is only one size rotor and caliper for both the I6 and V8. Also take the front sway bar off the car it is 1" in diameter and bolts right up.

the 6 cylinder C4 is a lighter duty trans than the V8 one, but not by much. things that are different are the servo sizes(smaller on the six), clutch packs(fewer on the six), and valve body programing. since it is a 250 you can bolt the trans right up to a 289-351c/w V8, but you will need to use the V8 flexplate as the six has a "0" balance factor. you can use the six torque converter though. as long as you are not trying to make more than about 300 hp the six cylinder tranny will do just fine.

Today i changed my tierod ends and found out i might have a granada spidles on my car i bought 1969 mustang tierods and the went right thru the spindle and as i tighned up the nut it ran out of threads? Can you see the part numbers on your spindles?

The 69 tie rods are smaller than the Granadas. Just ask to see the granadas tie rod ends to compare but it sounds like you need the granadas.

gbarber,
I used I6 Granada front discs on my 66 and they work GREAT! I ran into the same thing you did (asking to see if the I6 would work) and when I came back to the junk yard the set was gone!!! Luckly I found another Granada. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I bought the Granada yesterday. I already had a set of spindles I picked up a few months ago from a junkyard. All I really needed was the proportioning valve, but since I found this car I guess I'll have a set of spindles to get rid of later. I drove this Granada last night. The brakes worked fine, so I'm hoping to be able to use these rotors and calipers. I haven't had time to tear it apart to inspect everything.

I am so freakin lucky then!! My dad had a 79 granada w/ I6 and i swiped the spindles, tierod ends, calipers, discs, master cylinder, and front sway bar, and they all bolted right up on my '69 front end!! now I just need a rear sway bar and im set!! 'course I should probably get my 351 P.I. dropped in first, but it will all come together in due time...

just out of curiosity, about how much did all of you pay for your granada disc brake setups??

I stripped the Granada this morning. Everything appears to be in good working order, and I think I will be able to use the rotors. I'm probably going to use the sway bar from the Granada on my '66 also. The Granada sway bar is only 1/8" wider than the stock one. I thought there would have been a greater difference in the two. The geometry of the attatchment points is very similar to that of the '66.
