This may be popular and I just don't know about it, but I have an idea for a sub setup. I drive a 96 Cobra and would like to add some bass. The Mach 460 has enough bass for me, it just isn't very clean. I can't sacrifice any trunk space, so I have found an alternative. I am wanting to remove the speakers in the rear deck and install a pair of 6.5 inch subs (probably Kicker CVT's or JL 6wo). I would like to power them off the factory amps. Does anyone know how much power the amps push to the speakers in the rear deck? I need 150 each, not sure if the stock will do it or not. Otherwise, I will find a place to mount a small 300 watt amp to push both subs. I can easily get an adapter to make the 6.5 subs fit with no permanent modification. Has anyone tried this or have any comments on how it will work? Thanks for any input.

Best bet is to not run the subs off the Mach Amps and just install a small amp to power the subs.

If I end up doing this I will be getting a small amp, either a mono Kicker or 2 channel Fosgate, to power the subs. I am also considering replacing the door and rear deck speakers with better ones to start and hope that it provides the sound I am looking for. I would have to run the subs with vocals which hurts sound quality, so I am not sure at this point. After looking at the specs, powering subs of the stock amps is not gonna happen. Any thoughts/experiences on how this will perform? Thanks.

+1 I agree, no factory amps. But, if the mach system has enough bass and your just looking to clean it up, I would install some nice aftermarket 5x7's (components NOT coaxials) and a nice 4ch aftermarket amp (or 2 2ch amps mounted in the stock locations. That would give you cleaner sound (full range, not just bass) and even more sound/ bass depending on the size of amp.

Most mono bass amps have built in active crossovers, so you should not have to worry about that.

I have heard that 2 6.5's if done right can sound like 10's. I would really like the stealth design, but as we are discussing, subs probably aren't the best option for me. So I just need to do away with the stock amps and use a decent 4ch amp? I was thinking about just replacing speakers with Boston S55's powered by the stock amps. I can do a 10 in a small enclosure in the trunk for cheaper than the 6.5's, so really no reason to do the 6.5's except for being different.
