Sounds like you did what you could. If they want it they will get it almost no matter what. I always worry about someone using a repo style truck so I try and make it as awkward as possible or put something huge in front of it. I know locked up brakes make it almost impossible to move without making a ton of racket.

If its outside pull the fuel pump relay or ignition rotor and buy wheel chalks you can chain together on both sides of the tire. Will stop all but a lift gate repo truck from taking it. As for out side storage go buy a cheap budge car cover, then a cheapy water proof 185-193 generic car cover off Amazon alibaba, temu etc. all the same stuff. Also buy a 11yrd roll of 1" nylon strap & buckle kit for around $10 bucks on amazon. Wash the car, park it on a tarp or mat, throw the budge cover on it. I use the blue ones since I always find them on sales in local stores, then throw the China water proof one on top of it. China ones tend to have at least 2 straps, buckle them tight, now get that 11yd roll and buckle kit and make a strap for the rear hatch area, roof and front cowl others wise the wind is going to kill the covers in a few months. The sun kills the budge covers quickly and there softer on the paint,, but the whaterpoof China ones tend to hold up even when the sun bleaches them, but they suck against the wind if not strapped in multiple areas or custom fitted. I have Cheap $15 covers going on 3 yrs that live out side on a back burner roller project still holding up that way, without the straps the wind rips them to shreds around this time of year.

I've seen cars for sale that had car covers ruin the paint. I reckon the covers were loose and flapping in the wind. The constant rubbing of the cover flapping in the breeze left marks in the paint that could only be fixed by respraying.

That's why you use a soft one under the waterproof stuff and strap them.

Razor blades under the door handles.

Just kidding. Disconnect starter wire from the solenoid on the fender, leave the gas tank empty, gut a TFI module and put that on the distributor, trip the inertia switch.

Just make sure to log everything you did so you can get it started yourself.

Anything to deter is better than nothing. I live in a tiny town in NW PA. We don't even have a flashing red stop light. A month or so ago some pos thought he deserved my neighbors g-body Monte Carlo SS more than my neighbor did. He actually opened the door to my fox and must've realized it was a 5 speed and moved to my neighbors car. Car was found a week later pushed behind a barn a ways away.

I worked in downtown Detroit and in the early 2000s someone smashed the side window of my 1995 F150 to get the CD player, but when they saw it was a cassette unit, left probably in disgust. I know they got in to pull it from the dash because the rearview mirror was tilted. Ha, there were some greenbacks in the visor pocket if they had explored a little but apparently did not want to linger.

Some people's kids really piss me off.
Anyways, anything towards deterence is worth it. Especially since from what I gather you live in a much more populated area. Good luck man.

Welp, that is another strategy. Long-term storage on an empty tank. But then you have the issue of condensation, so I like to keep the tank full.

Yeah, put the wife's car outside for winter. If it is stolen, good riddance. Can always get another used minivan anyway. Ha ha, car on stands or blocks, the city is likely to tell me I have to haul it away or make it operable. Wish I had my brother's garage. He had an 800 square foot garage and a 600 sq ft house. True gearhead.

Concrete pad is the best option and I would still lay a rubber matt under it.. I wonder if a rubber mat directly on the lawn would work.

Amazing thing. I told wife I was going to have to move the motorhome out to put the Mustang in the back yard, then block it in with the motorhome. She just said, "Why don't you just leave it in the garage?" I was sure she did not want to monkey with snow covered car in the winter, but wow, this is awesome. You bet I will be diligently cleaning off her car every time it snows. Mustang sits in garage, on rubber mat, wheels cocked, and clubbed. I should also pursue the excellent idea for the kill switch that was posted earlier.

Kill switch is always a good idea if you take it out and leave it parked for a min to run into a store or something. It also comes in handy when troubleshooting and you just don't want to deal with the fuel pump priming as you cycle the key for whatever reason

The irony is back when I was a teen/early 20's, i knew a group of guys who loved stealing Mustangs and other sports cars for joyrides. If your car was an automatic...they left it alone. Only cars they targeted were manuals.

I know this because my car was an AOD at the time. Used to park it in the street and was told the only reason it was never stolen was because nobody wants to drive an AOD Mustang.

Where I grew up [NYC] they stole anything and by the time you discovered your loss it was already either shipped overseas, chopped up for parts at the local yards, or sitting on cinder blocks on a Bronx side street - completely gutted shell.
Ah the 80s, good times.

I wonder if just a car cover would be enough to deter thieves. Either they would move on past because they can't see anything inside or what the car is, or it may intrigue them more to look deeper. Who knows.

I use a kill switch, or if I were to store, remove the steering wheel and two bolts remove the shifter. With a carb car not easy to start cold.

I would get a storage unit. Will not be very expensive at all. Not only can you greatly reduce theft but also, you'll keep it out of the elements.

Had a older co worker who grew up in NYC back in the 70s. He would tell me some crazy stories like when they changed their oil they would pull over the sewer drain to dump it lol

Sad to say that that’s 100% true.
Thank goodness those days are over. Horrible!
