Rocker arms are moving. Engine runs with no smoke.
Four questions:
1.) I broke part of the head off the intake valve. Would I not get backfiring through the carb??
2.) I broke part of the head off the exhaust valve. Would I not get backfiring out of the tail pipes??
3.) The piston has a hole in it. Remember I redid the comprssion test with a syringe full of oil squirted in with no change. Where would the mixture go and ignite??? The oil is clean with no sign of any contamination,
4.) I cracked a head or blew the head gasket. Why no smoke and why do I not need oil or water especially since I have been driving the car daily over 75 miles per day for the last three weeks??
With a broken piston, you wouldn't have contaminated oil, remember, the piston has a hole in it, and if so, it won't pull in a fuel/air mixture, cause with the hole, it devleops no vacuum.Without a fuel/air charge in the cylinder, there's nothinbg to ignite.It will have a dead miss.
Hey, don't feel bad, I initially thought of the exhaust valve too, being broken, but then thought about it, and then thought about the piston scenario. I may still be wrong though, hard to diagnose engine problems through a wire Only his hair dresser knows for sure
Maybe stating the obvious here, but have you check valve adjustment? Sounds exactly like mine after following the FORD procedure for setting initial valve lash. Adjusted the valves with the motor running and cleared everything up. Vacuum jumped to 18" and steady, the miss disappeared and the tone became much crisper. It also allowed me to drop the idle 300 RPM!
