If you use hood pins, do you need a hood latch?

Depends on the kind of pins you use. Ensure that the kit you're running is designed to hold the hood down (some are not).
The ones I use ARE for holding the hood down. I use the latch anyway because I want access to my engine bay to be limited by more than just pulling a pin from the outside of the car.

Thanks. Any recommendations on manufacturers guys? BTW, after doing a small search on here, I decided I want to try to find latches that I ca nput 3m foam under so that the metal is NOT contacting the fiberglass. Otherwise, sounds like there are chipping and cracking problems! All the pins are for is pressure, they should not need metal to fiberglass contact.

i would just buy a bolt on not a pin on hood to many problems and anyone can get into your engine bay.

i got the Mr. Gasket locking pins--had them for about a month and no rust yet. they're also pretty heavy-duty--moreso than the regular kit they offer. they come w/ rubber padding that you place under the plate so you don't have metal+fiberglass contact.

So do you guys cringe a bit when drilling holes in your hood?
I plan to add pins as soon as I know if my new engine combo will clear the Cobra hood. I've had my hood pop-up to the safety catch TWICE in 5 years while racing at the track. I don't plan on it happening again.

I'd keep the stock latch in addition to the pins if at all possible. I've heard horror stories about peoples pins being stolen while their car is sitting, allowing the hood to fly up freely when they drive it.

Get the Ford Motorsport hood pin kit, they are stainless steel and will not rust. I still run the latch with the pins. Drilling the new hood was interesting but easy.
I hate hood pins so much but I may run them. I am not a fan of the ford hood latch. I had no worries with my GM's but their latch setup is better IMO.
