The irony is that the PIP can cause you to lose fuel.

The idea Scott was getting at (it won't apply here unless the issue gets worse): if the car won't start, and you have neither spark nor injector pulsing (tested with a noid light), the PIP is likely.
If you have no spark but do have injector pulsing, the PIP should be ok. At that point, the ignition coil, TFI module, etc (in the ignition) are likely at fault.

Right now, that doesn't help you much. Do pull codes - that's a great opportunity for a soft code to be stored. I'd also note that 5K+ RPM is when a weak ignition can rear its head. Too large of a spark plug gap or spark plugs that don't conduct very well (read Platinum) can start to have a high-speed miss.

Im thinking about the TFI module too ths MSD distributor I have has only about 2000 miles, the coil about 800 miles, but the TFI module .when I got this car it had 200.000 + miles, since then it has a new engine new tranny, differential and some other engine stuff, I have gotten no codes, Im running autolite 3924 gapped to 0.45, today Im going to check the ground wires to rule that out...... thanks guys

Try running the plugs at 0.045" and see if it helps.

Tossing parts at things can get pricey.

I didn't mean to sound sarcastic before. People often mistype the plug-gap spec and more than once a new member actually has attempted to gap his plugs at the listed spec (nearly half an inch) after doing a search. That's why I clarify.

I'd still want to know that you are not running out of fuel pressure/volume at higher RPM. The reason I consider this is that a weak pump can also cause prolonged cranking before the motor catches.
