so as the title says I can take the keys out of my car and the car stays on? Now to roll the windows up or pop the trunk I have to turn the key to the on position.

Can someone instruct me on what part to start switching?

thanks

Ignition switch needs to be replaced.

Yep. I think it's an $11 part, very easy to fix. You just take off the column cover and there's a harness under the key that plugs into it. It has this mechanism that slides back and forth to the "run/start/accessory" positions that the key switches to and over time it gets so wore out that it either doesn't work anymore or it sticks.

When mine went bad, you had to hold the key slightly towards start for it to stay running. It all depends on how the switch wears out i guess.

Now, this is all not to be confused with a stuck solenoid....it's not stuck CRANKING is it? Just stays running when you take out the key?

Okay put the new one in and same problem the car stays on, I even unplugged the unit all together and the car still stays on.

I did hide my wires under the hood, if that makes any differance. The car was working fine before this problem. any thoughts?

Update: got everything working was a loose connection
